Good SIM Only plans?

Use this when I'm out in the field miles from anywhere in Wales to connect to laptop, but usually phone is good enough to tether to.

They might say you are not allowed to tether, but as said above they don't stop you so ?

Yep there's a block that disables all data as soon as they detect a non-mobile OS using data.

So it's still possible to tether to a tablet or another phone, but if you try and tether to a desktop/laptop/etc it shuts down all data immediately.

This is simply not true, just to prove the point I am now tethered to my moto G posting this reply with the motor G providing my internet connection to my main home PC. (motor G connection is being used as a wifi hotspot)

I'm just leaving giffgaff after 4 odd years as their data speed is shocking for me now.
I've gone to O2 and as a test I did a speed test on giffgaff and then on O2 from the same phone in the same place a couple of minutes apart, H signal.
giffgaff 0.85 down 1.24 up
O2 4.59 down 0.77 up.

Also giffgaff are just about to change their pricing. Unlimited internet will soon cost you £20 if they do it at all.

Simon

Having both O2 and GG data sims I'm lucky much of the day to get dialup speeds on GG atm whereas swapping to the O2 sim speeds shoot straight up to the ~10Mbit/s area with a full H+ signal and about 200m from the mast with roughly line of sight.

But you've already told us that you are NOT on a contract taken out since the changes came into affect...

^ correct, but it was said that PAYG could not tether, just pointing out I can...not trying to be an ass here just posting what I/you can do. (still tethered to motoG's wifi hotspot for connection to home PC)

Not true.

Only if you put the SIM in a device that isn't a phone does the SIM get blocked.

It's 100% true, I'm on Three and have tried it. Obviously this is for the contracts I'm referring to, the ones that came in after they changed their recent rules.

The point I'm trying to make is that Three do not offer any way (as of NOW) to get unlimited tethering. If there is a way, then please show me as I'd like to move on to it!

No they do not, officially.

On contract there is no way. But on PAYG, although tethering is not allowed, it still works.

I am afraid you don't know what you're talking about.

I could say the same to you!

I have no idea what the rules are, or what is possible on old PAYG contracts, nor have I ever said anything to suggest I do

Here is what I have said: Three do not offer any contracts with unlimited tethering. Contracts taken out now, which don't have a tethering allowance will block data when you try and tether to a non-mobile OS device.

Yes that's true.

But as I am trying to explain to you: tethering works just fine to a PC (or other device) on PAYG even if it isn't technically allowed.

Then fair enough, but that was never what I was trying to say.

Glad we understand what we're both saying now though. :)

Sorry guys if it was my post that caused all the confusion :(

To the OP my vote go for 3 if its good in your area on PAYG 321.
