Google Android or Chrome event 24th July

I'll probably get one at that price, even if it was just for YouTube videos when mates are round.

Damn, Chromecast looks awesome. My brother will love this, he's a Chrome user on his Macbook and watches quite a lot of movies, and every now and then hooks it up to the TV. Hopefully the chrome tab cast will be ready for the christmas holidays.

I would get myself one but I haven't felt the need to use a TV in ages :p... Although this may tempt me back ;).

I am incredibly pro android, but how is chromecast not a slightly gimped version (until all apps are updated to include it) of airplay?

It is mildly cheaper than an Apple TV with less ability to deal with local media.

Because it allows you to use multiple devices rather than being restricted to a single OS.

The price is vastly cheaper than an Apple TV.

Wait until the guys that developed MX Player get hold of the SDK. Local media will be a possibility.

It's supported by anything that uses Chrome browser... which is on like nearly everything. I think it is extremely useful and very clever in it's simplicity and price.

It's price is great and it certainly should be a success but I think that will rely on all apps supporting it properly and it also being available worldwide.

It also should have incorporated local support a la airplay and toile it perfect network storage support.

Google aren't interested in providing you with a solution to get your local content on your TV. Whether that is right or wrong it's the facts.

This is simply a solution to connect the internet to the TV, something that companies everywhere have been struggling to do for years now. It's the simplest solution yet, and because of that and the price I think it may just work.

It is quite an interesting device. My LG TV works quite similar with Youtube and Netflix, I've been using it quite abit, I get the little cast icon in Youtube and Netflix and just watch it straight on the TV.

If (When?) developers get their hands on the SDK and allow local content to be streamed to the device as well as DLNA hosted content too, it could be very interesting assuming it is able to play 1080p with DTS.

And at $35 (whatever the UK price turns out to be) it'll be quite a steal and highly recommend by me, especially to 'not to technically minded' friends.
