Google Drive

bah!

Sry _Jimlad_ had to trot off to work and forgot to follow this up :(

You sort this out after ?

yeah mate, i needed to click on the 'back' button as it was defaulting to the files view, working a treat now and loving it mainly for work use, just getting files back home or with me on the phone

I may look at this once there is a good way to upload files for backups etc... The cost is fantastic, the methods of upload not so good.

A cloud drive desktop backup app for servers / desktops / linux comes out and I'm all for it.

What do you guys think of it ?

Just taken it for a spin and it's like google docs beefed up a bit. Is there a file size limit ?

As I've said before. The idea to merge online documents, with local content seems bonkers. The two should be held/viewed separately else makes things unneccessarily confusing! Silly move there google!

For that reason I'll continue using Dropbox for sharing local content for its simplicity and slightly better interface IMHO...

huh ? The point is that local content is a mirror to the cloud not vice versa.

Dropbox also does this so the 2 are no different. The daemons to sync files to google drive are in the pipeline

You don't understand.

Imagine, on my online google documents imagine I have the following three documents:-
to_do.gdoc
work/cv.gdoc
holiday/shopping.gdoc

Now imagine I share my google drive between my home PC and work PC, and have two documents which I want to share between then, for example:-
to_do.doc
visualbasic/reminder.doc

Now, with the default settings of the sync program you will end up with, both on your local folder on your PCs, and in your online documents (via the browser), the following:-

to_do.gdoc
to_do.doc
work/cv.gdoc
holiday/shopping.gdoc
visualbasic/reminder.doc

For many that's a mess. They don't want to see their online documents mixed up with their locally shared files. It would make far more sense to look at one, or the other, not both smashed togethor.

The only way to achieve anything sensible is to turn off default options, and create a subfolder specifically for local content to separate if from the online documents when you browse online.

So, to avoid this, I'll continue to us Dropbox for locally shared files (across my PCs), and google docs just for google docs.

Adrive does not seem to have a sync tool like the other products!? ie: You have to manually move individuals files to/from it. You don't just have a mirrored/synced folder on the PC(s) involved!
