Google Glass update thread.

It's just people with very short vision. The same people that said smartphones would never catch on because they are too big and wouldn't be seen dead with such a big phone.

Technology moves on, these people will resist for a little while until it becomes much more the norm and several companies are making their own version. Then they will pretend it was their idea all along.

personally, i do like the concept and the design, something that would be very handy for a lot of people who are into technology,

ie:
1. when the first iphone/smartphone came out no one was that interested, looks what is going on now.
2. When the internet was first developed, no one care look how many people are on the internet constain. If you said this to someone in the 80's they would just laugh at you.
3. looking at the google glass, it is like an all in one kit (sat nav/camera) good idea hope the concept lives and get developed.

Personally i wear glasses, and it would be something that i would be interest to even be on the development team, the way mobile phones are going with the lightness, incorporating that into google glass wouldnt be a problem. I would how it would work when you are driving... no more lookin down at the dash board or hearing that crazy voice naggin you :)

charging would just be plug or wireless...i hope wireless or maybe incorporate solar panel chargin, now that is a dream :)

Spent a £1000 so I don't have to wear glasses. Not going to spend a £1500 to start wearing them again.

A very niche product (compared to say smart phones) but a great mareketing awareness tool for google.

edit: on a side note I would imagine they would be considered a distraction and would need taking of when driving. Things popping up in your line of site not necessarily a good thing.

Also above post, smart phones did look like a good idea at the time (first iphone got it right though far from been the first). The internet was great, slow to begin with, but took off massively and again its potential was always mouth watering. Wearing specs isn't.

I can't wait for these to become available. I'll be at the front of the queue.
Full time AR is the way of the future. It's the way of the future, the way of the future.

Not quite sure I see the point of them just now. A voice activated camera & HUD seems like a solution desperately looking for a problem.

I really don't see the point either, if you actually live the lifestyle of one of those people in the vid's, where your entire day is filled with skydiving, fashion shows and, skipping, then you might have things worth recording, to the degree its worth wearing something on your head every waking moment so you don't miss it.

In reality, 99% of your life isn't worth recording, and the 1% that is, you know is coming and you can take your phone out and record anyway.

The search functions are going to be painfully limited with no direct control. Google jellyfish, you get one sentence, it isn't what you wanted to know, you pull your phone out to do a proper search and get the result you want.

You want to record your kids play, you look at that hot mum two rows over, that gets recorded, you get in trouble when your wife wants to watch the play again, holding a phone, record what you want, look where you want.

A head cam ain't new, and is rarely useful except when you actually doing something worthy of getting vid of.

You're going to go skydiving and rather than record on devices already made, like helmets with cams on, you want to jump out of a plain, with glasses that could easily come off that cost £100's? really?

The reality is, if you really are one of those people with a ridiculously exciting life, where you want to record sports, and hot women all day long, good for you, for everyone else.... I see exactly no reason it will improve your life, or help you day to day.

It could be a pretty useful to take on a holiday, because those are the times you often don't know where anything is, or what restaurants are good, but for every day life where you mostly travel to places you've been before, are generally doing something not worth recording and have a need for more detailed use of the internet than voice activation will allow its going to be of very limited use.

I have found the idea of HUD glasses very impressive, but after watching that video I am honestly not that impressed.
They looked far more impressive in their previous video.

I'd like you to try to bully me, i'd end you

What these fools don't realise is that we have long standing defense agreements with the ball heeds and gingah army, with quite a few in all three camps, I know an ex Hells Angel, ginger, balding and bespectacled in his mid 50's who might just take the eyes out of anyone attempting to bully him for wearing glasses.

Thousands of pounds for a pair of glasses with a camera gaffa taped to them? Thanks but no thanks.

We do not know how much they will cost. C'mon guys, stop quoting the £1500 figure as a realistic RRP. Thats for a the early-acess dev program, I expect release price to be way below the £1000 mark.
