although looking this morning, it's £33 a month for 2gb and £38 for 5gb. Due to the time I was placing the order, I phoned up. Good job I did as well, as if you pass the usual credit checks before 17:30 it comes next day.

p.s. the old o2 trick of taking out a big data plan, and downgrading once it arrives no longer works. Basically, if you ordered the 5gb data plan, you can't change to 2gb you are stuck with it

Just come home from town with a shiny new N6 :D. It has been a while since i've been on android. Time to load this baby with apps!

Can anyone recommend any decent screen protectors?

spigen, but don't use the cleaning wipe as it adds dust!

it's the only protector I've ever fitted without any bubbles!

Unless you do it through Refresh, then you can cancel the whole contract the very next day :)
 
Got my phone from o2 today. Ordered it before xmas but its now. Orange in store didn't have any nano sim but took the plunge and couldn't wait so I cut my micro sim into nano and works fine (so far)

My phone is yelling me to do an android OS update but I have a couple of questions before converting everything over.
1. If I root, I can't get OTA updates and will need to wipe and download roms everytime?
2. I had Franco Kernel installed on my old nexus 5 and the battery life was amazing. Is it worth rooting my phone for this? Has there been test results out

I actually agree with this, and I'm in no way a heavy data user. The amount of months I hit 1gb was unreal. If I doubled it to 2gb, how long would it be before I used that up. Played it save this time and went for 5gb. Now I can relax when I fire up Google Music :D
 
I'm not a heavy user and lived on 1GB contracts. I was reserve with my usage though. I'm now on an unlimited three connection and use it without thought now. I'm still not heavy but can hit 4gb easily.

Install the OTA.
Then do all the unlocking/rooting.

No you wont have to. Head over to XDA and you would be able to flash any updates without loosing data. You can use tools like WUG's Toolkit.

Thanks, installing the update as we speak.

I'll do more installing after the new year and do testing on the battery.

I never seem to pick up the concept of nandroid backups. I have to get an custom recovery installed first to do the nandroid back up. Once I get this in place I perform this back up and it installs on a partition on my internal memory?

So if I install an updated rom then I can simply put all my apps / messaging and settings back on?

The nandroid backup is just a series of files that can be used to restore your complete phone image. Can be kept on your internal memory or computer etc.

I've recently gone to Franco kernel and it is excellent. Performance boost over stock and excellent battery life too.

What I would do:

1) install ota
2) unlock phone
3) remove encryption
4) root
5) flash twrp
6) flash Franco kernel
7) enjoy!

Nice to see another Northampton user on the forum :)

One thing I seem to have a problem, I'm playing a game and it seems to stutter or lags badly, the sound is out of sync and isn't as responsive. On my old Nexus 5 running 4.4.1 it ran wonderfully but on the N6 its horrible. One thing could be is due to the encryption, I have watched a few videos on the performance and its not as noticeable. I'm just wondering if its to do with encryption or just compatibility?
