@Rimsy

Today was the official closing of the sale of Motorola Mobility by Google to Lenovo. It took 10 months from the time they announced it until today because of the need to obtain approval in many countries.

I would hope that Lenovo will want to see their new subsidiary's launches this month as successful. After all, Lenovo knows a thing or two about phone releases!

I see the Lenovo acquisition closing as being mildly positive for our chances of having a smoother Nexus 6 ordering process than I imagined even a few days ago.

Hope I am right about this.

Ah ok, so it will be a stock issue as opposed to "official release"

No idea when pre-orders go up? I'd like to try and pre order as soon as they become available from play store.

Nothing concrete from what I've read, but the most oft quoted date was mid November for the UK, but after the US mess today December seems to be cropping up as a likely date. Nothing firm though.

The Nexus 6 is now also going to be on most of the major US carriers (unlike previous Nexus models as far as I recall) so stock will be going to them, not just the Play store.

I think current thoughts are that google is aiming for this to be mainly available through carriers so they are keeping minimal stock on the play store, which would explain why it sold out so quickly. I guess we will see how things go when the carriers start offering pre-orders.

Sounds like UK pre-orders could start November 18th so hopefully that will mean shipping in december.

In the US pre-order launch of the Nexus 6 two days ago, I was reading through some comments on my G+ public feed by Jason Howell (moderator on US based TWIT--This Week in Tech Network). Howell was attempting to land a 64 GB Nexus 6. Commenters said that the 32 GB was available for a short time before going out of stock but the 64 GB went from Coming Soon to Out of Stock almost immediately! No wonder people were frustrated! Their only relief was that all the main US carriers/operators (ATT, Verizon, Sprint and T Mobile) will carry the Nexus 6 too.

But one really interesting observation I noticed: Google was offering Google Play Music streaming service free for 6 months! Here in the UK I think they charge 10 pounds monthly for the service so if correct and if they extend the offer to the UK, that would be worth 60 pounds in value. Anyone else notice this? Would be great if they extended this to the UK too.

It's only for people who haven't used a free trial or used the paid for sub before. If you've ever used Play Music before with your account you can't redeem it. I've had this disappoint before with the free 3 months bundled with the Chromecast.

Probably a bit off topic but quick answer, I signed up for about 3 months when it was launched in the UK and then it didn't have much of the genres I listen to, Trance / Dance music. The top 10 list for related genres would always have the same 5+ albums.

Compatible with a variety of carriers, including those listed below. Check with your carrier for details.

North America:

T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, USC, Bell, Rogers, Telus, Telcel

Rest of world:

Vodafone, CPW, Hutch, SFR, Electronic Partner, MSH, Orange ES, Vodafone ES, Vodafone IT, Vodafone NL, Optus, Claro

From that I'm guessing it will at least be available on Vodafone and Three(Hutch)

@JimLad

I expect things will pick up smartly prior to the rumoured 18 November launch date in the UK.
If the US pre-launch on the Play Store is anything to go by, I expect it was to keep up interest in the interim period prior to the 12 November launch and availability in store at T Mobile US of the Nexus 6. I expect the other carriers/operators in the US to launch on or about the same date as T Mob.
I expect by the 12th, we will have heard some leaks from the UK carriers (Vodafone, etc) about their launch plans too. Motorola has enjoyed good relations with carriers and I expect that the carriers will be well-stocked here when launch takes place, even if it takes place after a burst of activity on the UK Play Store.

18 days to go?

Paul O'Brien did tweet a few weeks back that no one in the UK won't be getting their hands on a Nexus 6 until December. His prediction sounds spot on.

We'll shortly know more about the Droid Turbo aka Moto Maxx in a few days and if the rumours prove to be correct I'm going to jump on that and bin any idea of buying the Nexus 6.
