Google Pixel 5

The pixel 5 is worth it if you can bag the free headphones. Otherwise nah, not when the OnePlus 8 pro is 650 on amazon today.

Sorry to single out your post here, but as another 2XL owner, I agree with the others, and disagree with you.

I do know where you’re coming from, though. On paper, the Pixel 5 is definitely an upgrade in most ways; same size [and very likely better quality] screen in a smaller body, wireless charging, more RAM and storage, 3 more years of updates, extra camera lens, a few other software smarts here and there...

In the end though, it’s about asking what is it that the newer phone will do that the older one won’t, especially when that involves parting with £600...

And for me, the Pixel 2XL is still a more than viable device in 2020. The screen isn’t great, but it’s hardly the disaster everyone paints it out to be, especially for what I use a phone for these days, basically, a bit of casual browsing, take a few photos, do a bit of online banking. I don’t do anything much more than that, and for me, the Pixel 5 doesn’t really do any of those things any better than what I have now, maybe with the exception of photos, but even then, it’s not 3 years worth of progress here, especially without that telephoto lens.

Heart versus head in the end, I do want a new toy, but I don’t want to pay £600 for the pleasure, especially knowing that the novelty will be gone in a week or less. I think that is where the other posters are coming from.

As for the update situation, personally, I think its borderline unacceptable that the Pixel 2 is now unsupported when iPhones are offering at least 5 years of updates. No wonder people are jumping ship.

Well it is relative to what you use a phone for. And if you want to upgrade. I am going from a 4XL to a 5 so my upgrade will be minimal.

At the end of the day like Android and iOS phones have hit a brick wall in development so upgrading a 2XL or any half decent phone obtained in the last 3 years will not have the sort of upgrade in features or advanments of previous years. Unless you perhaps go from a standard phone to a fold.

I use a 2xl daily for Pokemon Go with my kids and from my point it would be a massive upgrade for the screen alone. But if you as you say are a lite user then I see your point. It's all relative to useage I guess.

I'm upgrading from a pixel 2. For me, The upgrade was semi-justified as I wanted a more up to date phone and to get rid of the chin and forehead of the Pixel 2 and to continue with the monthly/OS updates regularly. Oh and my battery is slowly becoming worse on the P2. Then there was just the notion of wanting something shiny and new to get.
I used to upgrade my phone every year or two but don't bother now.

i have a feeling a lot of us who are coming from a 2xl are going to be disappointed in the small size of the phone, even if the screen space is overall bigger, the phone feeling smaller i imagine could be hard to get used to.

I need a case !

Anyone gone for any from the rain forest ?
I bought a Spigen one which arrives Friday to keep me going. Got a fancy Walnut Mous one coming at the end of November

On the flip side, I'm coming from a regular Pixel 2 and am thrilled that it will be the same size whilst getting a bigger screen.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised the visual improvements.

I am waiting on the Spigen Rugged Armour but there appears to be a bit of stock issue.
I ordered a 'Tough Armour' Spigen yesterday, due to be delivered on Thursday. In the mean time I'll use my Pixel 2 case as bar the camera cut out they're practically identical in size so fingers crossed it'll fit...

It looks like some phones are shipping, I just received the following email with a DPD tracking link (that isn't active yet):
