I have an excellent credit rating, a good job that I've been in for several years, never missed a payment, yet I was declined. Absolutely baffling. Oh well, I guess I wont be bothering

True, probably will do. Although as delivery is now showing November 10, I'm probably just going to postpone this for now. The headphones are a nice gift, but the 'while stocks last' statements, while simple arse covering, still makes me uneasy. This mini debacle hardly inspires confidence at this very early stage.

Ouch, just looks at what Snapdragon 765G offers.... slower than SD845 performance with 5G, it's three generations behind.

It's even slower than the Note 9 (Exynos) from 2018, this won't age well.

I'll definitely pass, I upgraded from the Note 9 a year ago because of performance..... :eek:

A lot depends on whether you game or not. My Pixel 3 is just as fast as the day I bought it but using an old Nexus 5X doesn't feel much different.

I'd like to have the best of everything in my phone but too much is made of the benchmarks of phones.

This. I’m using an iPhone 6S, no issues with performance outside of games. You don’t need a blazing chip to browse the web, watch some videos and do some messaging.

If you're happy with 2017 performance than I guess it's fine....

EDIT: Worth pointing out SD 765G is slower then a SD835 when it comes to the GPU, your Pixel 3 with SD845 would be significantly faster, Pixel 5 would be a downgrade.

PC to Mobile comparisons don't work.

That's why I moved away from the Note 9 (also battery life was crap), trying to play Blades and a few other 3D games was a stuttery mess, I dread to think how new games would run.

Damn, I wonder how Civilization VI would run on a Pixel 5, thankfully I'll never find out.

Tip for Pixel 5 users- Stick to simple 3D games, the kind that run well on anything.

As said, plenty of power for general stuff and a much more efficient chip. The 4a has some of the best battery life I've seen for a while and from only 3,140 mAh... I feel like the Pixel 5 might last for ever!

**EDIT** Actually, give me a few examples of games it might struggle with please? I'll test them when I get it

It's marketed as a mid range phone. If you want to game buy a flagship I think that's obvious :confused:

Not everyone needs the absolutely fastest SoC money can buy, but what if you wanted a Pixel 5 and you also wanted to play games? It'll be okay now, but what about in a couple of years? Why have something good enough when other manufacturers are offering something that's better than good enough for the same price?

Soon, Apple will release the iPhone 12 and its looking as if the A14 will have something like three times the graphical performance of the 765G and the price of the non-pro models won't be a huge step above that of the Pixel 5. Google aren't in a strong position with their hardware (in terms of units sold), so I can't understand why they decided to shave a few bucks off their BoM when they really need to create a buzz around their products. You don't create a buzz by skimping on the basic specs.

I worry some people might not know what they're getting, this phone was mentioned to me by a few people looking to upgrade and specs at first looked great even to me, until I took a closer look.

£599 is still a lot of money for a mid ranged phone, for this price you should be looking at flagship phones from last year, new and used.
