Warranty ran out last month, but going to call currys in the morning. Think I can prove its a fault with the phone having done a search.

Bloody typical. What about the house insurance? It might have taken an "accidental" drop.

Confident I can get currys to do something since I part paid with a credit card, so have section 75 cover also. I did pop into a repair shop who said would be £320 to repair 
Since android update Ive had my phone hardlock and become unresponsive twice in a week.
It reboots itself after about 90sec/2 mins but both times I've begun contemplating if it's new phone time. It's quite disheartening as I'm on holiday right now....
I feel like the macro focus on the camera has become incredibly slow/dumb, no longer knowing when it should swap to that lense and when it does it has a struggle to focus. It will get there but it feels noticeably slower.

Good news on this front. Was going to pick up a refurbished 7 Pro for parents and this should be a decent upgrade from the ageing Huawei that has no updates.
Never got any screen burn with the 7 Pro, but I recently upgraded to the Pixel 10 Pro XL and I'm getting retina burn! lol
No, had mine for 3 years without issues

Still using Pixel 7 and it's great. However, I have been thinking of getting the pixel 9 if I can find one for £500 or less.
I don't want to upgrade my 7 pro but I pulled it out my pocket to find the display is broken inside (black/green bleeding). It's usable but for a while a portion of then screen stopped working including the fingerprint sensor. Got it working again with a little percussive maintenance but now I'm paranoid it's going to suddenly be unusable. I need it for 2FA for work etc.
Genuine Google screen kits are over £200, although reasonable to fit at least. I might have to pick up a used handset which is cheaper. I just can't stand the idea of buying them same old phone again. The idea of being happy with this one is I don't have to throw money at it

I've had this 7a for just under 2 years, was bought new for me.
I think it's decent enough but my main criticism is the battery life is a bit pants.
Also despite the fact I'm very careful and 50% use a wireless charger, my charging port is already starting to wear...
The phone I had before this which I'm actually still using for work reasons, cheap Huawei P20 lite, was better in a lot of respects except the Camera, which was awful by modern standards. But the battery on that seems to last longer and charge faster and the thing is heading towards what, 8 years old now?
I don't think I'd buy another Google phone if I'm honest.

So I switched from a pixel 7a to iPhone 16 pro last year (very happy with it)….
I’ve kept the pixel 7a as a spare, but the other day I opened the drawer it was in and noticed it was coming apart, the battery was bulging massively forcing back of the phone off.
After a bit of searching, this is a known fault, so I found an online form to see if my phone is eligible. It is…so I got given choice of getting it fixed, getting $300 store credit, or $200 cash. Applied for the cash obviously…..waiting to hear back.
May be interesting if anyone has one lying around, you may want to check it and/or store it somewhere you don’t mind it bursting into flames.

Well, now they've come back and said 'computer says no'.
I'll send them the pics of the swollen mess of a phone and see what happens.
