Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Dont see the attraction of these totally bezel-less phones.

Some bezel is nice and neccesary imo.

Yeah, it looks amazing, but where is the ear-piece and how are you meant to hold it without accidentally pressing the screen? I suppose that's the same as the Galaxy Edge's in that regard, and people don't complain too much about those.

Was interested in these Pixel handsets until I saw the price which is just hilarious. £600 for a 32gb handset with a 1080 screen makes some iphones look like value for money. Google smashed it out of the park with the 5x and 6p imo but things look to be firmly back in the park now for no other reason than greed.

Has sesevans come out as a good employee yet?

Perhaps you missed the memo? I have not nor would I ever expect to work for Google, nor any company affiliated with them.

I am excited about the Pixel XL 32 GB phone I expect to receive between 24-26 October. I am pleased to see Google putting huge marketing muscle behind its launch.

Suppose the vastly over priced hardware has to pay for something and marketing is as good as anything else I guess.

I'll know if the marketing has worked, if my mum & dad start talking about the 'Pixel' phone.

That's what marketing is for. It's to penetrate the mind of the every day person to make them think that it is an every day kind of tool they need in their lives.

They don't have a scooby doo about features etc. They wouldn't understand it even if you told em. It's more brand name that makes the difference.

My parents recognise only two. Samsung and Apple in the phone world.

I'm sure this is the case for the vast majority. And Google are trying to target this vast majority using Apples strategy. Expensive 'must haves'.

For me personally, both phones are looking promising.

I want a phone with a great camera / video recording capabilities along with a good battery and fast updates. So for me, this phone ticks all the boxes. I just can't decide if I want the XL or standard.

The cost is expensive, but on paper the specs match other phones which have similar specs so I honestly don't see what the big deal is.

I think people are holding onto the Nexus idea and forgetting that the Pixel range is something completely different.

Oh also, the unlimited uploads to Photos is a great little touch.

Google is currently the number 2 brand in the world behind Apple. The big difference in approach is that Apple markets exclusively to consumers and until now, Google markets almost exclusively to other brands.

This is about to change with Pixel, Daydream VR, Google Home, Chromecast (which has already started), and other products in the pipeline.

It will be fascinating to watch this battle over coming months and years and the big marketing spend that each will throw at it. Neither company is short of funds to allocate to this effort.

Pass the popcorn.

I ordered mine yesterday. There's nothing else in 5" or smaller format that I like and I know if I bought any other phone I'd be always thinking about Pixel. Which is something that I usually do and then wish I'd spent that little bit more and bought what I actually wanted in the first place.

It is expensive but it's something that I'll use every day for a fair amount of time for about 3 years so I'll get my money worth.
My gf has One Plus 3 and I'd happily have a 5" version of it if there was one. However at 5.5" it's just too big for my liking.

It is true, if you want a reasonably sized smartphone that isn't huge, you've basically got the iPhone 7 or the Pixel.

The S7 is smaller than the Pixel. And I don't even have to check the dimensions because you can spot the bezels from a mile away.

Except if you don't like Samsung phones, like me, then there's nothing really out there and it's not that much cheaper anyway. Currently using my mates S5 and compared to my old N5 that died it's worse in every single thing. There really isn't anything about S5 that made me think I wished I bought it instead of N5.
S7 is all of 1.4mm smaller in height. WOW! ;) Pixel is tiny bit narrower and even though it's thicker it's still lighter than S7. Only reason bezels on Pixel look big it's the lack of a button at the bottom of the phone.

Difference is the Samsung has a bigger screen and offscreen buttons yet its shorter and yet doesn't have incredibly small bezels either.

Anyhow I'm not here to bad mouth your purchase, as long as you like it that's all that matters. I just think the design is so lazy from a company with the breadth of talent that Google possess.

I actually don't mind the design at all. In white it looks horrible but to me all phones look crap in white.

I know that Pixel hasn't got as many features as it perhaps should have, or at least as many as we'd want it to have, but non of those missing are essential to me.

I've always owned the Nexus range then switched from the N5 to S6. I wish I never. I find this phone so frustrating (bar the camera which is great). The battery is beyond a joke!

Apart from a few key features, you can certainly get comparable phones to the Pixel range for £300 or so less. personally to me though, these key features are the features I've found frustrating on the S6 so the Pixel is a no brainier.

With things going down the toilet for Samsung and the Note 7, I am left wondering what to buy as my next daily. Not that I have issues with my Note 5, but surely I can't be seen with a phone that out of date :O

I am now wondering if I get a Pixel XL. I agree they are over priced, but I do want something top end, I'm not sure the OP3 quite reaches that? I understand it's 90% there for 45% the price, but I want closer to 100% there.

I am also wondering if I should hold out for the LG V20, but I don't think there's much info on dates or prices for that yet, bringing my back to the Pixel XL.

Was the full sized storage of photo and video for life, or the life of the Pixel? That would actually be quite handy for me.

I'm in the same boat as you, with the minor exception that I've got a terrible HTC One M7 to use as my daily at present rather than a superior Note device :(

The Pixel XL looks to be what I'll jump ship to if the Note 7 is definitely cancelled, have any of the tech reviewers had any proper hands on time to do in depth reviews of the Pixel yet?
