Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Really quite a lot actually. It creates a much more spacial sound and you can appreciably differentiate between left and right channels. Compare the audio recording quality with the V20 and it will blow it out of the water. Given the silly pricey of this phone, it should be specced with nothing but the best hardware.

Just the same with stereo front facing speakers on a phone, night and day difference compared to mono.

Myself and two friends did a little test with this. Not one of us could tell the difference between the stereo speakers on the iPhone and the new Pixel. Well not quite true actually as we all thought the Pixel was the clearer of the two with a bit more humph.

Perhaps if you have ears like a bat you may be able to detect a difference but otherwise just like the water resistance feature, yet more sales gimmicks.

Some folk are simply a salespersons dream.

I never realised people cared so much about phone speakers, what are you doing that it matters whether its mono vs stereo? It's still a crappy little phone speaker...

It's not the mono vs stereo, more which direction the speakers are firing. If it's coming out of the bottom, then it's coming out of the side when you're gaming or watching a video. If it's coming out of the front it's always being directed towards you.

For me it's not so much about the user as not annoying anyone else as much. If I'm lounging on the sofa playing a quick game I'm not going to stick headphones in, but the wife doesn't want to hear me picking up coins as I'm playing Hill Climb Racing - having front-facing speakers limits how much she will hear.

For the record I don't listen to music or anything like that in public through the speakers.

My manager got the 128GB XL over the weekend and I've been playing with it this morning. Feels lighter than it looks, but feels solid, one piece.

I like it as a whole, but dislike the stock icons and launcher. The screen is big, but the icons are not making efficient use of the space/dpi. Everything looks like a large PC monito using a below optimal resolution. I am used to the Galaxy S7 edge with condensed DPI, though, which feels much more up to date, if that makes sense.

The camera view in auto mode has more bias toward a yellow white balance tone compared to the S7 in office lighting. The lenses appear to be similarly wide.

The bezel space top and bottom could genuinely get annoying now that I've had it in my hands. IMO the S7 edge looks more premium and modern due to the curved edges and design aesthetic.

If I had one myself, the first thing I'd do is stick a dbrand skin on the back glass as it's a smudge and print magnet. Much more than the glossy back of the S7.

Couple of points. Seen both these phones side by side and my view is the S7 is oversaturated and not to my personal liking, whereas I find the Pixel to be clean and fresh. I wouldn't change anything about the screen or launcher as this is how it should look.

Having said that I much prefer the smaller Pixel than the XL. Regarding the glass being fingerprint magnet. I expect most owners will be putting a case on the phone so it hardly matters. Some people do have much more oil on their fingers than others as well.

I watch a lot of youtube in my spare time and it matters. I have a Nexus 6 and yes its a massive difference compared to the pixel have speaker, having speakers which face you gibe much better clarity and stereo have with imaging. Especially when I have the phone close to me when viewing.

Some people don't really care and I appreciate that but there are plenty that do.

iPhone 7 isn't a patch on the Nexus 6 or Nexus 6P - there was your mistake.

And anyway we were talking about mono recording from the phone mics when video recording - which it has two of, so why not use them like on so many other phones!?

The fact that you have to mention this to some people on here just goes to show that people love to stereotype.

You obviously haven't used any of these phones for a length of time - both phones have a setting where you can set the colours to sRGB mode making them both very accurate. And it's Android so you can set them both up to look near identical.

@mrk

With 7.0, you can make everything smaller in the settings now, under display settings menu iirc.

Ah yes, there is that which is good, I was more on about the lack of customisation on the stock launcher, as in adjusting icon size, icon groups and so on. Coupled with condensed DPI, that helps greatly make use of screen space.

The stock colours are a bit saturated on Samsung apps, icons and launcher layout. I don't see any of these though. The camera on the other hand in indoor lighting seems to prefer more warmer white balance on the pixel.

I haven't used it outdoors, but going by SuperSaf's photo comparisons, the S7 camera jpeg samples look more pleasing/natural than the Pixel's in most instances. Both are good, just small differences some people will notice, but most will not.

The S7 has a very neutral AMOLED panel and ranked as one of the best for colour accuracy.

People use stock launcher still?! PFFFFFFFFFFFFFT! They need some nova launcher action in their life :p

Never used a Nexus 6 but I'd say the Pixel beats the OP3.

I think Google have spent a lot of time working with lots of app developers to optimise their apps...

Yeah sure looks it :D

Not! Some games takeing 50%+ longer to load on the Pixel!

Camera comparison with OP3 - though It doesn't seem like he used HDR+ on the Pixel?

whilst I was on Tottenham Court road yesterday I popped in to look at the Pixels. They had a Google rep on standby to answer any questions.

My very first impression was......this isn't worth £400 extra over a oneplus 3, especially since the oneplus has double the memory.

Spent a good while using it, then cancelled my order. Then had a 20min walk to the nearby o2 shop and got the oneplus.

It's a good phone don't get me wrong, but 99.9% of the pixel experience comes from android 7.1, and considering most of the pixel apps are making their way over to other phones (Wallpaper by Google for example) it just didn't make sense to me as to why I should spend £720 when the oneplus is £300 with an extra 32gb storage.

Here's my oneplus (and yes, the wallpaper is live) and the home button activates Allo for the assistant. 99% the experience for less than half the cost! Google needed to price this better!

We went to the Cotswolds this weekend so got to try the camera a few times, impressed with it coming from a Samsung S7 Edge. All taken on auto and no filtering not sure if it compresses it.

Indeed very nice pictures, though HDR seems a bit overdone in some of the pics. Takes away from the natural look. Shadow detail is over brightened.

I was just stating it as I know some do (on trains, buses, on the street etc) and it annoys me too. I wasn't intending as a direct reply to Sp00n, just as a sort of footnote to my post.

After debating whether to get the pixel xl I ended up with the OnePlus 3 this morning. Just couldn't fathom paying £819 in the end! Ye the camera is good but for the money I have left over I can get a second hand Sony RX100

So it's a none issue then, there is no difference, a win win all round. :)

Well surely you could argue a Korean car will do 99% what an upmarket German car will do. The question is which one would you rather have. I suppose at the end of the day it's true what people say about the Android and iOS demographics being completely different.

Wow! I had not appreciated how the rear glass of the Very Black Pixel attracts fingerprints.

I was actually going to say how impressed I was that the phone generally didn't attract fingerprints. Much better than my Note 5.

Whilst looking though, I have notices some long micro scratches along the back, which is a little disappointing. They are tiny and you have to catch the light a certain way or you don't see them, but annoying considering how long I've had it!

Dbrand have said they will send me a couple of skins, but I don't know how long that will take. My 6P is still in it's skin actually. It lasted well :)
