Google Pixel and Pixel XL

I generally think it's tough to justify the price of an iPhone and I think there are plenty of others that would agree tbh.

And yet the 2015 figures for iPhone are 232 million units sold. I think the real issue is the Android ecosystem sells to a different market. You can get Android phones from bargain basement models £100 or less right up to the flagship phones with Pixel, Galaxy pricing.

This demographic covers the poorest in society to the wealthiest. Because of this you have a large segment always looking for a bargain. As said before, the comment about Android owners is 'they want everything but pay for nothing' (not penned by me I might add). That comes through loud and clear when you read many of the posts in Android threads i.e. they expect iPhone fit and finish at a fraction of the price.

When a model is launched that can compete on quality and features with an iPhone you then get the vociferous 'bargain basement' mentality shouting 'it's too much, we want it for nowt'.

Last I checked no one is being forced to buy a Pixel phone but from what I read those who have appear generally pleased with their purchase. For those that don't want to stump up - well there are plenty cheaper alternatives.

I know some will think I'm mad, but I don't need stereo front facing speakers. I need a loud speaker with decent sound, and the Pixel XL has this.

It passes my kettle test too (can I hear my podcast while the kettle is boiling) which not many devices can pass.

I guess for me it reaffirms this really is a top end device. All components appear to be very good ones, down to small details like the speaker.

Stereo speakers on a phone are simply another box ticked for the manufacturer yet add nothing for the user as in reality there is not enough spatial separation to be of any use. Another marketing ploy for the gullible.

Not any that close to me unfortunately :(

Having a chat with Google live on the phone (which is amazing BTW) and they want to send me another one after explaining the problem. They said the buttons should all feel the same and they tried with one of their units and confirmed this.

This is why I bought from the Google Store :)

What exactly are you on about? OP3 generally gets rave reviews

Regarding the vibration motor on this phone, it's a bit too strong. Using swiftkey and the lowest setting for vibration is still too strong, not had this problem on any other phone and it's normally very adjustable using swiftkey when typing. Samsung has a setting for vibration strength but this does not.

Read various reports that states that while it's fast when new it doesn't last. For some as yet unknown reason they slow down months down the road and get bogged down. Not keen on their version of Android either. If you're on a limited budget then it's probably a fair option.

As previously said though it only comes in the one size which is too big for many.

Plenty of us on here have had it for months and there is no slow down. They used UFS2.0 storage which shows how much they care for performance. And it is literally among the fastest Android phones there is.

Their version of Android is literally stock with added gestures and features so I'm not sure what you meant there. Camera is on par if not better than the S6.

Yes one size but I'm comparing that size to the Pixel XL and S7 edge.

Anyway I think we've talked enough about the OP3 in this thread. We can take it to the OP3 thread if you feel the need,

Never used a Nexus 6 but I'd say the Pixel beats the OP3.

I think Google have spent a lot of time working with lots of app developers to optimise their apps...

I have both OP3 and Pixel in front of me - literally nothing in it in terms of performance.

Nope, I'm fine. I'm not really looking for a budget phone or one of that size. To each their own. Pixel for me is simply in another league IMO.

I semi-agree with this... I am not afraid to pay for "the best" quality and hardware, but I do think that both the iPhone and Pixel are overpriced for their relative incremental benefit over cheaper models.

The car comparison is poor (i.e the Ferrari vs. BMW argument), because I for one don't buy a phone for its perceived sexiness or prestige... perhaps others do!

For ref, the most I ever paid for a new phone was the Nexus S on launch for £430. I would be happy to pay up to £500 for the PXL, but £820 is wayyyy to much, imho!

I do think it's the way the market is going though. Google has realised (perhaps always realised) that the premium end of the market is where the profits lie. The lower end of the market is awash with no name manufacturers all trying to compete for business where there's little profit to be had.

There are already signs that a number of makers are struggling financially and will likely fall by the wayside. Fragmentation is also an issue at the low end of the market in particular with support being discontinued after only a year, less in some cases.

I note Huawei are about to release a phone in the U.S. which will retail for $1300. Research has shown that consumers want all the latest features in their smartphones and whilst no one wants to see prices rise they are more than willing to pay premium prices.

You have only to look at iPhone shipments for 2015 to see that. Samsung have similar figures for their flagships too. I fully expect to see £500 to £550 as the minimum price for any decent phone over the next 12 months. Brexit and the pound are only making matters worse BTW.

Wont be long before mobile phones are like £1,000 at Google's pricing logic!!!!

Its just getting stupid. I look at what i can get for £819....a new TV, laptop, 2 consoles, hell it would pay my car insurance for 4yrs!!!

Fully comp for £205 per year. What you running? iPhone 128 gig 7 plus £819 or 256 gig £919. If you start equating the price to other items where do you stop? How many pairs of pants will it buy you, how many pairs of socks?

Pixel prices are just the same as an iPhone or S7 Edge and command the same quality so why not quote these too?
