Google Pixel and Pixel XL

I've no idea what the refund process would be with Carphone Warehouse or EE if you decided to return due to not being 100% happy with the handset, unable/unwilling to cite a particular fault. However, I certainly have no complaints with Google's customer service and if I do buy another Pixel it will be through the Play store again.

Thanks for the update. I'll head in store this weekend and see what they say r.e returns.

Not as happy with it as I'd hoped, but my review is done -

watching it now. almost straight up i think you made a mistake. you said if you want pure android you'll have to pay iphone prices. as far as i'm aware, pixel isn't pure android. it's pixel android, and even worse if in america it's full of bloat if bought from verizon.

It's as pure android as good as we can get and who gives a monkies about the US?
You're just splitting hairs.

This really. Why would I care what an American company does?

My only thought on that comment afterwards was actually maybe I should have mentioned there are some budget devices with very close to stock, like Motorola's (erm, Lenovo).

By that logic there really is no such thing as pure Android, the Nexus phones use the Google Now launcher, is that any more 'pure' Android the the pixel launcher?

"Pure" Android would be AOSP without any Google apps.

True but whats the appeal in that.... aside from a handful of ASOP / anti google people the vast majority of android users recognise that google apps (and how well they integrate with everything) are what make android great.

Very tempted to pick one up. Only problem is CPW offer far better deals on EE than EE themselves. Goes against my gut feeling to consider using CPW.

Guys slightly off topic but can someone recommend any android based watches that will go with the Pixel xl cant seem to see anything

Just a nitpick really from your review Andy, That glass back seems to scratch fairly easily?

I was annoyed I forgot to mention, I do have one hairline scratch, coming down from the right side of the camera lens. Not always easy to see, but with the lights for the video it probably shows up.

I've got dbrand sending me a couple of skins and bought one from Slikwraps. Apparently the dbrand one give a back that leaves the glass uncovered, which sounds great for leaving the style of the Pixel for others to see, but doesn't cover perhaps the most prone area for scratches. Maybe a slightly different colour for that bit would have been best.

Walking past an EE shop on Oxford Street today I stopped in to ask about the Pixel and was told that it was selling well. I was surprised however that the full price was £ 769 for the XL 32 GB compared to the £ 719 I paid in the Play Store. The monthly contract price was £ 60 pm for two years or a whopping £ 1440.

Was the price always £ 769 at EE? ie, £ 50 more than the Play Store?
