Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Just received my first skin to test to see if it's any better than a bulky case. My reference is I used Gelaskins on my first gen iPod touch when they first came out all those years ago.

I ordered one from decalgirl and one from DBrand.

The decalgirl one arrived today, just plain grey.

It doesn't fit, it's way too small so I can feel the edges in my hand. It's obviously going to peel fairly quickly. I expected it, like the Gelaskins, to wrap round the edges onto the sides but it doesnt. It just sits on the panel.

It looks bad, adds nothing in terms of protection (yes, some skins will protect from scratches and light knocks.) Do not recommend.

Is there a way to turn off burst mode in the camera? Mrs triggering it sometimes making a mess.

What would this case look like on the White/Silver one? In my head not very nice.

Google Home/Google Assistant/Google Pixel/Allo

Google Assistant is broadening out to conversations with third parties in early 2017. Google has begun opening up its APIs to third parties for conversations rather than actions and plans to extend it beyond Google Home (coming to UK in 2017) to Pixel and Allo. This link shows how important this area is for them and so I expect some really helpful voice interactions you will be able to do on Pixel coming soon.

I saw someone else earlier in the thread had bought Tate guard screen protectors for their pixel. How are you finding them? They dont actually fully cover the screen, let alone glass edge to edge. Plus I'm finding it difficult to get the edges to stick. Not overly impressed

Can anyone recommend any good charging accessories for this? Just picked mine up yesterday and with previous phones I always liked to have a few micro USB cables/chargers spare, one at the office, one at the gf's house etc.
Should I buy a fast charger or 2 or maybe just a couple of USB c to micro USB adapters and continue to work with the plethora of micro USB cables that I've amassed over the years?

I also ordered the Cruizerlight Defence Fusion Fender case off the rainforest, anyone got it?

Word is Mobiles and Vodafone have updated ALL the tarrifs now so everyone is seeing their 6gb correctly.

Except me. And nobody knows why.

Edit: On hold with both mobiles and vodafone. Whoever solves it first gets a cookie. i'm 5 out of 10 angry, which is optimum anger for customer service i think.

So just picked my Pixel XL last week and it is a real slick piece of kit. I'm coming from a Samsung S6 Edge+ and although there is a slight drop in screen size (which was pretty much my only concern) I don't miss it at all.
I don't miss the wireless charging - it was just a faff IMO - for a good quick top up plugging in direct is the only way to go, admittedly the slow charger was handy when sitting at the desk for 2 or 3 hours at a time but it won't be missed.
What I love about the Pixel is the little things that always bugged me about the Samsung phones but I had just learned to live with them - such as when the Do Not Disturb function is active the LED Notification light stays off too, this still flashed on the Samsungs. It's great to have no bloatware and as everyone has said the Stock Android platform just flies.
I love the fingerprint scanner on the back too, I had the LG G3 when it was doing the rounds and the power button on the back got annoying after a while but the way Google have kept the Power on the side and the fingerprint reader on the back is just heaven.
One thing that the Pixel got a bit of a hammering for is the large (rather purposeless) chin on the bottom, I actually quite like it as it gives a good hold on the phone both in Landscape and Portrait mode and unlike the Samsung you don't run the risk of accidentally activating any capacitive buttons.

Now, on to the question(s) - Did anyone manage to get a good reliable screen protector? And what cases are people running with? I have the Silver model so the black Spigen cases don't really appeal to me all that much.

Just received the 711 OTA update. Really liking the double tap to wake. The lift to wake seems hit and miss

Just received mine too. Yes double tap leads me into the pin code request but find it just as easy to put my fingerprint on back. Lift to wake works fine.

As a reminder I find it useful in Settings, the Move feature which includes Swipe for Notifications, Jump to Camera, Flip Camera and now Double Tap to check phone and Lift to check phone. I still find Swipe for Notifications the most useful and productive of the new Moves gestures, allowing me to use any finger (not just the one for fingerprint ID) to swipe down and access the notification bar.

Anyone know if these work with micro usb otg cables ? I bought some off the bay and they 'seem' to carry data but don't work with an otg cable

pixel -> included otg -> micro usb cable (type a to micro usb) -> usb dac works

but as you can imagine looks a bit over the top

After owning the XL now for some weeks I found this favourable comparison of the Pixel XL to the iPhone 7 Plus a real positive for the XL. The author believes the XL just "keeps on getting better and better".

Article shows camera comparisons, fingerprint scanner comparisons, chip design comment and the author really likes the Pixel design.

Any comments?

People must be taking pictures of a bowl of fruit with these cameras, because any time I try to take a picture of a person who as much as blinks, the movement is enough to confuse the software into mega-blur mode.
