GordyR's Beginners Guide to Bodybuilding

so many bars weigh differently, only thing you can do is weigh the ones in your gym.

reason why?

in my gym there are 3 oly bars, of which 1 is 17kg and the other 2 are 20kg (17kg has plastic ends rather than metal)
also in my gym, there are 3 EZ bars, 1 with metal end and 2 with plastic. needless to say, the metal one is heavier!

weigh yourself at one time of the day, its the only way to be consistent.
also, make sure that you don't weigh yourself on carpet unless your scales are made to work on carpet.

I've done this now, cheers

Another question relating to diet.

Not that im needing to diet really but point is I want what im doing at the gym to make a difference, it already has but just incase :).

Basically for daily drinks, is it fine to drink Lucozade sport? Diet coke? Dilluted orange with water?

I do already drink water at the gym etc but its not something I drink daily. For food you should always have 3 meals a day? anything in between?

Cheers.

Water would be most beneficial, but as your not dieting I'm not sure if it is important

5-6 small meals a day is better then 3 large meals a day I've found

Lucozade and other sports drinks are a big no, they're ok after a hard workout but that's it. They're full of sugary carbs and they will only help make you fat.

Diet coke has some nasty sweeteners in it and I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole! Read up on them or be blissfull in your ignorance, some people would rather not know ;)

Its best not to think of a diet as a diet in terms of eating less.
Being active in the gym means you need a meal plan (diet), whether this is a calorie deficit or not doesnt matter.

The biggest thing that will change your body, is what you eat and when you eat it, if you are not eating properly then you will not see optimal gains / losses.

ahh the good old aspartame, indeed, some people would rather not know :D
tastes nice though, thats the problem hehehe

I used to drink diet coke but in light of the aspartame hazards i've switched all drinks out for water, dont miss them at all either.

I've found a lot more things other than just diet coke are sweetened with aspartame now, particularly the low fat foods (yogurts etc).

Okay cheers, I'll lay of the coke (drink :p ) and the lucozade then. So what other drinks are classed as a particular big no? red bull I presume as one up the top haha. And I take it all of coca cola's trademark names such as sprite and fanta and what not are all no no's? What about oasis?

Anyway I don't really eat in between meals, I don't eat biscuits or sweets really. Don't mind 1 pack of crisps (mcoys are the preference) don't eat it all the time just once or twice a week. Other than that I have a healthy breakfast unless prodige and toast is bad for you. Lunch usually just a sanwich or one roll with whatever filler usually maybe ham, cheese n pickel or something or sometimes just a pot noodle. Final meal varies, but whatever it is (mostly home cooked) it should be fine yeah considering what else I eat in a day. Also drink tea, usually 2 cups a day with 1 sugar. Thats it really.

you need to eat more often. 3 meals a day is not good :]
also, there is a severe lack of protein.

breakfast
mid morning
early afternoon
early evening
pre bed

there is 5 meals for you to start you off. you do not need to over eat, just eat little often :]

you do not need to eat small for 2 meals then have a large dinner, this will not help you in your goals :]

Aspartame controversy -
A few studies have recommended further investigation into the possible connection between aspartame and diseases such as brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma.

Isn't that in studies in rats/mice? TBH i think the whole aspartame topic is sometimes a bit "tin foil hat-ish"..............having said that i do try to avoid ingesting it ;)
