GordyR's Beginners Guide to Bodybuilding

CW, are you not absolutely shattered after all them 5x5s?

I've started doing 4x5 for the big 3 lifts, even after that i'm pretty drained compared to usual.
Yes lol! Though it's only 20 sets in total per workout during 5's. That's why I always say drop the iso's if you want to go 5x5, otherwise it's 3x5 or 4x5. Also it's detrimental to your gains, there just won't be enough energy left for your body to grow.

In answer to you saying you're drained, the 15's and 10's condition you for the 5's. Have a read of the HST journals and you'll notice everyone always comments "I forgot how brutal the 15's are! " ;) You really need to try the routine to appreciate just what a fantastic program it is, there's nothing there for show it's in there for a reason and just works! :)

Yeah it does have a really well thought out approach I have to admit, I can't wait to start it after my Christmas break :D

hes not wrong. the 15s are a bloody joke.
if you are having one of those weak days (we all have them now and then), be prepared to lift the girly weights :D

Right, since im about to start a 3 day split im trying to figure out on the other 2 days which are for cardio, first of all what time to start at and second of whats going to be most beneficial. Now I know that I can just do some low int stuff on the treadmill a fast walk or so after each lifting session but for say 40 mins to an hour cardio session what am I aiming for, keeping in mind im still trying to cut the body fat.

If it's best for me to go in the morning im going to have to try work this one out. I could do a saturday, sunday, monday, thursday morning. But if I am to choose mornings to do the cardio the weight sessions will be bumped around, thing is the timing between workouts, I don't want to leave more than 2 days but would rather leave a day out for recovery.

Suppose im best doing 5x5 since all the exercises are compound and I'd benefit out of doing very heavy.

See for protein shakes, how many scoops do you take and per what ml of water? just wondering because even though im cutting it's still best to have a high protein intake and I don't have time to eat enough food to supplement all that. Best to stick to 1.5 scoops or would there be a problem going over that?

1.5 scoops.... how big is the scoop?

Well it was just in general really. I was going to buy that impact whey euro 80that you recommended. Also is it better to mix with milk or water, I was wanting to eliminate carbs out of my diet or more realistically keep it very low. Seems to be a lot of sucess of fat loss by doing that.

in general, i use about .1% of the head on a shovel for my scoop.

with water throughout the day, milk before bed.

if you're buying it from my protein, just get the scoop from there as well, says on the site how much of each powder 1 of their large scoops hold

dont forget the Buchsteiner shaker as well :)

The previous tub I bought came with a scoop, I'll check tomorrow what size it is.

Thing about how much to take in one shake was because I've seen people at the gym with shakes, one who has like a 700ml shaker, but it's full to the top and drinks the whole thing in the gym whilst workout out, it's a protein shake.

So any comments on the exercises i have chosen? would like to know if i will be doing anything wrong, like overworking certain muscles, or missing others.

Hehe :D

Indeed, there are no better shakers.
can someone please have a quick look over these exercises and give me a yay or nay on if these are good exercises for building up muscle:

lower body
deadlift
squat
leg curls (lying/seated?)

torso
bench press
incline bench press
bent over row
incline shoulder raise
shrug

arms
hammer curl
close grip bench press
curl
Add dips and chins and drop the hammer curls

Clean & Press

Seated Arnold Press - or any kind of press, I like the Arnolds they seem to hit more than most.

Eat a mimimum of 4000kcals a day and prepare to grow like a weed AND smash all your PB's :D
There seems to be some uncertainty on clean & press form, a lot of places list it as a high pull and then a military press, I presume the proper form is to do a clean and then do a military press?

Yeah, I prefer them to normal shoulder press, they hit more muscles :).

Sounds good :D.

Lazy writing by me really. The actual exericse is Hang Clean & Push Press. Dude these are one of the most brutal exercises I've ever done I swear, also the most productive! Next time you goto the gym just pick up a bar at the end of your workout and rep 15 out, I guarantee you'll be shocked how tough they are.

They've brought my traps on a treat :)

I'll try and find a good video and post back...
