Despite everything it might still be something to do with the DisplayPort version as I can get 120hz at both 1440p and 4K with DisplayPort 1.4. I wouldn’t worry about your 3080 it should be fine for 144hz at 4K with its DisplayPort 1.4a and DSC.

So to achieve 4k 144 you have to use displayport connection, I understand 1.4 with dsc 1.2.
Nvidia 3080 uses 1.4a, I think the a allows adaptive sync/gsync, don't know whether the card connection has the dsc1. 2 and without this we're looking at 4k 120 max.
AMD 6800xt allows displayport 1.4 with dsc, doesn't say whether its 1.2. Im hoping without the a it will still do freesync?
These connections are a bit alien to me but I've still put the preorder in as 4k 120 is still great, and if the monitor claims it it must be possible!

Really tempted by one of these to pair with my not so imminent 3080 or possibly 6800XT. Don't think the wife would be too impressed though. Wonder if she'd notice the change

Got one of these recently (from a different supplier) - my quick summary below. Ended up sending it back due to the IPS glow.

Positive:
- The extremely thin bezels are very nice.
- 4K / 27" is extremely sharp - more desktop space than 1440p at 125% scaling for the same physical size.
- OSD controls are quite easy to use and are responsive.

Negative:
- In a quiet room the monitor fan is audible. With the case fans on 1000 rpm (Noctua a12x25 so almost silent) the monitor fan is louder than the case fans. (The case is next to the monitor so similar distance from me).
- Mine had pretty bad IPS glow - lower right hand side of the screen wasn't viewable in dark scenes (tomb raider/witcher 3)
- Every time it turns on the backlight does a disco effect - even if its set to off. It then turns off after about 3s.
- The LG desktop software is pretty poor. The backlight sync software (so the backlight mirrors the desktop and projects onto the wall) insisted on starting in the foreground with windows. The OSD software (used to switch monitor profiles via desktop) is better however it completely takes over windows scaling - very annoying. Also can only track a maximum of 15 apps for switching profiles. Required for updating the monitor firmware. I ended up removing both pieces of software.
- There seems to be issues with the hardware calibration losing its settings when the monitor power cycles. I believe LG are looking into this one now and hopefully a firmware update will be released.

Neutral:
- The VESA mount is recessed and has a curve to it. This may cause issues with some mounting plates.

You can see the IPS Glow on mine in this video of a Blu-Ray disc playing in a dark scene right at the start...

Got my 27GN950 on Friday 30th Oct (having pre-ordered on 28th September) - no dead pixels or glow - now back in the box as is a Christmas present for the kids in lieu of a 3080 as unlikely to be able to get a <2.2 slot one this year {Case limited to FE or EVGA XC3 black - unless anyone knows of other slim 3080s} their existing 2070S is going to have its work cut out at 4k. Thanks OC excellent service.
