** GORGEOUS NEW LG 4K MONITOR - LG 27GN950-B PRE-ORDER NOW **

I've also uploaded some sample screen captures and a short YouTube video clip from my Samsung G7 VA panel to which I've switched now after the LG. If you don't absolutely require 4K resolution and if you can get used to a curved screen, this is a strong contender for the shortlist.

Disclaimer: Videos and photos taken of a screen can never accurately capture what the eye sees, especially after taking file compression into account and especially if you're viewing them on an uncalibrated display yourself, but it should give an idea of the typical contrast ratio and black level achievable.

I'm giving the LG one more shot (2 x RMAs in) - if the 3rd one turns out to have problems I will be looking at the G7 or possibly G9.!

I've uploaded the same dark scene clip as yours now. Video compression added a lot of artefacts which aren't there in the source, but you can check the contrast and black levels.

I test all my monitors in the same room with the same computer, using the same source material. For video watching or editing, nano-IPS didn't give me the same experience as these new generation VA panels in terms of black level and contrast ratio. This is an inherent limitation of the panel tech: to get pixel response times so extremely low, IPS has to trade off the ability to display inky blacks.

For gaming, they're both top notch, but the LG can't get that IPS glow under control. I've had three of their monitors over the last three months, this 4K one and the 27GN850 and the 27GL850 1440p panels, and they have all had very prominent glow which spoils the experience in a dark room. Samsung also had their own QC issue with flickering, but they've addressed that with a user-installable firmware update.

Anyway, it's good to have different options and competition between manufacturers so we can all choose something that we like.

It certainly is, and that 4K stuff on YouTube will look even better on the 27GN950-B because it’s truly 4K whereas the Samsung G7 isn’t.

Hey, long time lurker first poster here :D
If I ordered this today how long would the expected wait be? Or more-so asking is there a big queue for this?
I did see it came in stock just before November and I wish I jumped on it back then!

It was due in on the 28th Oct, however from talking with customer service the delivery was delayed. I've tried asking customer service about when the delivery is now due in, but they've only told me to "check the forums and website"...

I waited three weeks for mine. I ordered on the 10 September and they came into stock 1st October. I would assume you wouldn’t have to wait as long now they’ve been coming in, in dribs and drabs but who knows?

Here's a comparison of the Samsung G7 vs LG 27GN950-B playing the same video...

Samsung on the left, LG on the right...
G7 better image solidity due to being VA, contrast is the main difference here. Both wide colour gamut displays but the added contrast gives more vibrancy. It's typical IPS vs VA really. IPS shines in viewing angles.

It is a shame there are no 4K 144hz VA panels as the contrast would be fantastic and I potentially would change over, but the LG 27GN950 is really good value for what it is until technology makes the next big leap.
That monitor does look worse than other 27GN950s I have seen on YouTube

It’s not that bad, I’m very happy with mine. I know there’s nothing wrong with the monitor it’s just par for the course with the IPS screen. It’s still a fantastic monitor and I’m glad I bought it. Honestly.

How do you feel it compares to an iMac? I am currently using a 2013 27" and as much as I dislike Apple for their prices they do have great displays. Supposedly this is an IPS as well but the contrast I have never had a problem with, the blacks are pretty good

I don’t know are you intending to use the 27GN950-B with an iMac? My iMac dates from 2009 and I think it’s a 1080p panel, I haven’t used it for years.

I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfect monitor but the LG 27GN950-B comes pretty close.

I know but the wait is killing me. Having had 2 already I’ve seen the art of the possible - and I want to get back to that - but - I woke up this morning thinking I might get a 32” G7 instead.
