** GORGEOUS NEW LG 4K MONITOR - LG 27GN950-B PRE-ORDER NOW **

Cheers, think I'll go with the G7 anyway as not convinced on 4k gaming yet, would rather 1440p pushing 144hz if not more in every game than 4K hitting around 60-100 in most.

Obviously the beauty of the 27” LG 27GN950-B is that you can run it at 1440p if and when you need too and it looks just as good as it would on a native 1440p monitor.

If you upgrade your graphics card at some point in the future to something more capable of 4K your monitor has got you covered.

Oh really? I heard that putting it down to 1440p would result in worse picture quality (softer, less defined, etc) compared to a native 1440p monitor because of the interpolation as it's non-native?

Yes the scaling to 1440 on this looks good. Tried on my previous 4k samsung, looked horrible in comparison.

I agree i ran 1440 on this monitor and it looked ok tbf

On my old Acer Predator XB280HK 4k 60hz gsync monitor it looked like someone had smeared vasaline over my screen @1440

In terms of ok do you mean close enough to the quality of native 1440p or just acceptable?

I think he means ok - for 1440p. Not as sharp as 4K. I found it as good as native 1440p. My old monitor was a 30” Dell U3014 running at 2560x1600 60hz and it was as good as that.

If it helps I went from the PG279Q to this monitor and I'm very happy with the upgrade, assuming you can push it with a decent specced system. I don't watch movies on either screen, only used for work and gaming. The HDR is meh but I don't think that any monitors will compete with OLED in this regard so I am not too hung up on it.

Yeah, your answer did help a lot. :) Maybe i'll give the LG a try.

What's LG warranty like. I heard the are awful to deal. It puts me off any LG monitors.

In the UK your warranty I think is with the place you buy from rather than the manufacturer. If you buy from OCUK and have a problem they won't (cannot) say "oh nothing to do with us, try LG direcrly")

Or, is that guarantee/1st year only? I forget.

Just looking at getting 2 of these monitors. How quickly do people think they coming into stock on average? If I order now do you think id get them before Christmas? Thanks

FWIW, I've bought one of these monitors, but mine had very bad IPS glow on three of the corners, even at 5% brightness. Perhaps I was unlucky and received a particularly problematic specimen, but it ruined the otherwise decent picture quality for me. I had to send it back for that reason.

I'm running an RTX 3080 Founders Edition card, so I had fun testing my games at 4K native res on the LG, but for any other type of usage, I couldn't bear the glow and the grayish black level leading to a pretty poor contrast ratio. I use my computer a dimly-lit environment and do a lot of video/photo editing. Never mind editing any, even watching movies on this monitor was frustrating due to the brightly glowing corners spoiling the picture.

I've also uploaded some sample screen captures and a short YouTube video clip from my Samsung G7 VA panel to which I've switched now after the LG. If you don't absolutely require 4K resolution and if you can get used to a curved screen, this is a strong contender for the shortlist.

Disclaimer: Videos and photos taken of a screen can never accurately capture what the eye sees, especially after taking file compression into account and especially if you're viewing them on an uncalibrated display yourself, but it should give an idea of the typical contrast ratio and black level achievable.
