willhub said:I will be using the Monolith sub and connecting it directly to the computer, it will be used in replacement of the z5500, so the sub on the z5500 will be turned off, sure it wont sound as good as with full range, but its only tempory, i want the sub first, because i know it can work directly with my computer withought an amp, then after sub, amp and speakers will come shortly.

Alexrose1uk said:Hehe, similar to my build then, except I have slightly older, and more expensive speakers, similar design it seems though![]()

I also bought my speakers from ebay. £100, they cost £400 when they came out. Not so bassy, biwired from the A5, but have tremendous clarity and feel of soundstage - feels airy and you can follow sounds with your eyes shut with decent music recordings![]()

because a £400 subwoofer will only highlight the shortfalls of your current satalites. Plus im suspecting it will be horribly peaky at 150hz+. spending £400 on a sub wont magically transform the sound quality. you'll just have tonnes of bass, no midrange and a shrill treble. trust me and everybody else whos been there already, music is nothing unless you have the full package. Go for the amp and speakers first. worry about the sub last......Yes, i would either buy the front speakers and amp first, or but the front speakers, amp and subwoofer all at once, which i hope to be doing, dont see how front speakers, amp and subwoofer will sound awfull :s
