Got £200 to spend on speakers

All personal preferance though, some people like that slightly emphasised boomy bass sound. Best to move them til they sound just right.

@Carl

Theres a couple of other A5 amps on the bay right now too :)

If you want wall brackets, my Gale ones cost me roughly £20 from Richer Sounds and if you have one local, all good. They sell speaker cable and interconnects in thier too, although my local one only stocks the Cambridge Audio phono to headphone jack interconnect (well, they did at the time, dont know about now), which cost about £15 which is probably a bit expensive, if you look around you can probably find a fairly nice one for slightly less.

Yes I see, some more have been added. :) Im going to go for some floor standing stands, seem nice ones, plus I can fill them up with sand, hehehe. There some nice ones on the net, very reasonable prices. Ill take a trip down to my local Richer Sounds, and see what they have got to offer cable wise.

Can't wait to get everything set up properly and take some piccys...

Don't buy cheap speaker stands, there's quite a bit of difference. Brother has Atacama Nexus and they're rubbish- really wobbly, I have Target R3 and the stands alone weigh 80kg for the pair. You can't budge them!

Thanks mate, well when the time comes ill have a look around then get the go-ahead first on here. What setup do you have? How does it perform?

PC audio setup is Rotel RA-920AX and B&W 601 speakers. Need to buy a new soundcard, just using onboard Realtek 882. :( Stutters occasionally even just listening to music whilst browsing, or doing mild HD access (hardly hogging drive)

Erk. I feel sorry for ya listening to music on a nice audio setup with awful soundcard. It just makes the flaws more obvious :(

You sure your onboard cant just suddenly die or something so you're forced to replace it ;)

Oc don't sell m-audio, not going to buy Creative tat, competitor has them but they're out of stock, gonna get a UPS at the same time to save shipping.

The PC system is very low end compared to other gear, just the gear not using anymore from proper systems. :p

How come the Rotel amps arnt fetching good money on ebay?

Random: The Sonic Impact T-Amp seems good value for money?

I should I stick to the A5?

Carl

Edit: Just relised the amp my dad gave away was some sort of rotel.

Sonic T-amp has a single input, is cheap build, and spring clip terminals. You'll also need a power supply.

Having multiple inputs is really handy, saves you plugging stuff into the back of the PC. ie you could easily plug DAP into the the stereo amp. Oh some also have 6.5mm headphone jacks, soundcards don't so need to use a adaptor, and really annoying unplugging. Front I/O is annoying as it could get it the way of optical drives, or if the case is on the floor kick the cable, damaging the connector.

I believe another forum member though CA were sub-par

Other gear is mainly Audiolab/Tag/Lexicon/Ruark/Kef Reference/SVS. :p

...But the Super-T has decent build quality and comes with a power supply (at least mine did :) ).
I only have experience with the Super-T mind, never seen a regular T-Amp.

Yes - it only has one input (2xRCA on the Super-T), but IMO it sounds like an amp 3x it's price. I wouldn't compare it with my Quad77, but to my ears it beats the NAD 3020i I have downstairs for clarity and soundstage, and the 3020i is a nice amp!

Really - don't diss the T until you've heard one!
The only possible downside IMO is the low power.
That's why the NAD is in my kitchen and the T is in my bedroom.
With a hot source the T can still sound fairly loud though - especially into 4 Ohms.

Just one input - but it sounds great!

Build quality is fine - but green card is required to subdue the blinding power LED!

Here's another review of the regular T-Amp:

Thanks for the input regarding the amps, the sonic amps look very good, but 1 input is certainly not enough. Ill keep it in mind though as the price is fantastic. I think my mind is set on the Cambridge audio A5.

I’ve just ordered the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speakers as well. Dont know why... You only live once, ill have a decent 2 channel hifi system as well as 5.1.

I would like to compare for myself. See what advantages and disadvantages they both have. I’m dead excited now though. Got so much to play with and I love setting stuff up and getting it perfect. Can’t wait.

Neither systems will loose much value, even if it does, i feel its a good investment. The important part for me is learning though, i want to know truely what each system is like. Cant wait!

Pictures will be taken!

A5 doesn't come with a headphone out in case that's important for you.
