Gothic 3

Well, I'm afraid all the negative comments here are true. I initially thought things were great, performance in the area you start the game in was fine for me but things go quickly downhill after that...

After about 20hrs now playing this I've given up for the time being. There is way too many graphical glitches, bugs and unbalanced gameplay. The patch, if anything made things worse for me. Performance went to hell and graphical bugs everywhere. This is a real shame coz the game itself is quite intriguing and I was enjoying the storyline a lot.

Apart from the graphic bugs the devs need to sort out the combat/balance system. The system in of itself, is fine, albeit more simplistic than Gothic 2 but the real prob is the inbalance with creatures. Orcs/humans can be taken down with ease but as others have mentioned, the creatures are a nightmare, it turns into a lottery. I had reached level 10 and had invested a lot of learning points in life energy and swords etc but even so, fighting creatures like boars was still frought with danger if you didn't get the first hit in. I'm not too fussed about the long saving/loading as this kinda gives you more incentive not to get killed...but when its so inbalanced like this....

I'm hoping they fix this up soon, as the game itself has a lot of potential. It seems they released this a few months too early. Wouldn't be the first time for games these days

Change your tactics - Orcs and humans swords - critters bows. You can run faster than the critters so it makes it easier.

Where do I find a trainer to to increase my hit points & endurance.

Still not sure what combat style I will go for. Gothic 2 I went for 2 handed which I liked.

I have now tried the shield block which is not that effective so I reverted to a previous save. Still not sure what to go for. I have put points into strength and swordmanship and I will also allocate some points into hunting as the bow is good for killing creatures. I also tried crossbows but but way to slow and you cant move when reloading which takes forever.

Are my swordmanship skill/points wasted if I later train in large weapons and two handed swords.

Yes, I know with creatures you can kite them with a bow but it seems wrong somehow (the lengths you have to go to) if a full on melee by comparison is completely useless. They should be balanced for both sorts of tactics.

There is an inherent problem with the creatures. Once they get a hit in you're pretty much screwed most of the time and that doesn't seem right.

I agree that it's unbalanced - humans and orcs are easier to fight. If you must use melee use your fast attack repeatedly and hopefully they do not get a hit in otherwise you get knocked down and it's game over. Circling creatures and waiting for an attack opportunity does not seem to work as they hardly ever miss when they attack.

It seems to be bugged as well , thats the impression I get. The creatures seem to be making a ton of hits in quick succession. Plus you get stuck in an animation loop sometimes too.

Forgot to ment saguy, you can increase your hp, endurance etc by going to a shrine. There is one in the starter town and every other town should have one in it or close by. Just click on it and it gives you choices. You need some gold and the relevant learning points of course. There are also trainers in most towns as well that give similiar things. For rangers, keep an eye out in the wilderness for ranger camps. Some of the guys there are trainers too.

Thanks

I thought they were oblivion type temp power ups. It has been a while since gothic 2.

As far as killing creatures I am going to put some points in hunting as melee is to hit and miss.

Blood-soaked landscape, perhaps? :D

Looks like I'll be giving this game a miss, sounds absolutely dreadful! Looks alright in some screenshots but I thought it looks poor in videos and with all these bug/crash reports I certainly will avoid it...

Game sounds like its been a rush job trying to get it out in time for xmas, like you I'll not be bothering with it.

I had some problems at the start of the game. Upgrading from 1GB to 2GB Ram helped (a little).

We can only wait for a patch to improve things

What is the maximum level? I thought it was 30 but I have read posts on other forums where some players have already passed 30.

Is that the annoying thing that pops up asking you to download the patch everytime you try and start the game?

If so then thanks.

Not sure, but easy way around that...

Go to the gothic 3 shortcut and direct it to the gothic3.exe and not the update file :)

Patch #2 will be out sometime

Kairo spoke in his interview for eurogamers about future plans with Gothic 3 fox Xbox 360 and by his words, there is small chance that G3 will be relesed for PS3. Most interesting is information about another patch, what will fix AI of monsters. You can read whole article here.

Back to Gothic 3: To the question, which will stand with the next Patch in the foreground, dock answered shot as from the pistol „AI “. The special attention would be on the way identification as well as the behavior of the companions and monsters. „Other nose, like a disappearing of the hero after a loading procedure, are also repaired, but therefore do not worry the people, which work on the AI. Those are two separate teams. “, dock continued to implement. It could not call a publication date however yet.
