GP2 & GP3 2013 Season

Shocking. Bird got out the way so don't see the problem there. That other **** should have had a race ban.

How the hell is he being allowed to drive this race? That was an utterly mental thing to do!

Given the ease with which Venezuelan drivers get away with terrible driving, in 2015 I'm expecting a Venezuelan Grand Prix with the FIA as the title sponsor...

Just finished catching up with the first race. Was a decent start to the season, seems like it could end up being a competitive season.

Great drive from Palmer, 23rd to 6th. Fabio Leimer winning by such a small margin is unimpressive, given this is his 4th year in GP2 now.

Calado is still holding his own given his relative lack of experience, if he can avoid a late dip in form like last year he's a title favourite. Racing Steps have done a great job ensuring his funding for this season. His competition agrees with me: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/106220

Good first sprint race, Coletti did well to hold it at the end there, thought Nasr was going to get him.

Nasr looked really good, great result for Evans podium in his 1st weekend in GP2 and points yesterday... All while having food poisoning.

Bit of a brain fart moment from Calado. It looked like he couldnt really decide on a line and by the time he did it was too late.

Unfortunate for him, but he can't really blame anyone else.

Slightly concerned that the hardest of the tyres only just lasts the length of a sprint race.

Robert Frijns will be taking over the seat Conor Daly drove for the first race at Hilmer.

Not sure if it's jsut this weekend or if he is in for the rest of the season.

Good to see though, he seems to have a decent record and is the reigning Renault 3.5 champ (and Saubers test driver).

He's arguably got the best record in the field, with three consecutive championships in three years. Mitch Evans might outdo that depending his results this season.

Alexander Rossi will be replacing Ma Qing Hua at Caterham for the rest of the season... I'm sure some will be pleased :p

Rossi is actually a decent driver who has wins in European single seater competition (placing 4th overall in GP3 and 3rd overall in Formula Renault 3.5), which I can't say for Ma "Quidco" as Skeeter put it. :p

A shame Frijns was asked for money by every team except Hilmer, and even that is a one race deal. He might lose his edge if he doesn't compete in enough races this year, which would be a real waste of talent.

Yea another good adition to the GP2 lineup... It seems that more than the last few seasons it has some really promising talent in there, which is how it's supposed to be.

Also, new name! Like it :)

:D

I assume the Chinese money has dried up and Caterham have realised that a dead weight without money is just a dead weight.

That was my first thought too... It seems it's part of Caterhams 'restructuring' with Heikki being in the car for at least a couple of test sessions in place of Rossi, so I guess they'd rather keep Rossi race ready in GP2 rather than nothing. Without wanting to read too much into it, it reeks a bit of Caterham are struggling again and hope having Heikki set the car up will help... Can't imagine he's doing it for free and can't imagine Ma Qing Hua will be paying to not race so it must be costing them a fair bit for this move around.

Yea would be good if they could work something out to keep him for the season.

I wonder if Quidco's Chinese backing was based on an F1 seat? He was originally signed to HRT in a race seat. I wonder if him only being 3rd driver at Caterham and then Heikki taking those drives anyway made the backers pull the plug. I can't imagine paying for a spot in F1 and then seeing the driver only drive in GP2 is going to please the share holders?

It's a shame that even the spec series in GP2 is all about money. I wonder if merging the Asia series in has made the championship a lot more expensive to compete in for the teams? They did used to only race in Europe with no air travel.

Could well be yea, Caterham are saying he is still a part of the team and their future plans but that could just be PR.

It is a real shame that the money issue filters down into GP2 (and likely even further), drivers not able to secure or retain seats in a feeder series is quite sad to see.
