GPU prices go boom

@Panos thing is NV will sell those 300k cards Amd would have to sell them almost free or scrap like 290s

Check the Powercolor sales (TUL) over the last two years.
Their sales right now are on same level as were last year and the year before.

The huge spike on the Vega cards made them billions. At one point their sales were almost 9 times higher than the normal trend.
And even if we assume they sold at the inflated prices over MSRP by 80%, they sold 8 times more graphic cards in units over the previous year.

That's a big load of AMD GPUs, yet still there is barely any supply. Just the last month we manage to have some true offers like the Nitro+ at £514.
Yet still today they are at inflating prices offers. Which means they still sell otherwise the shops could have drop the prices.

Given how expensive Vega is to make, I doubt we going to see any massive stock that need shifting. Also AMD could sell them to Apple for their Pro.
It has market there to shift the units, don't worry. Nvidia doesn't have someone like apple selling 20,000,000 GPUs in just 3 quarters. AMD has.

Also AMD is in no hurry to ditch the stock. There is no GPU until 2019.

A long wait for me then. Interim 770 I picked up is fine for 1080p anyway. Not paying full price for 2 year old tech and I have a feeling most are of the same mindset. At this rate I might as well hold out for the Vega refresh as would rather give AMD the cash in light of Nvidia's recent behaviour.

I'm struggling to see how we can favour either side as they've both been as bad as each other over the last year.

Personally prefer to support the underdog in a situation where both are equal to ensure competition. Adding Intel into the mix should keep things lively with 3 players at least.

I don't suppose there will be a price drop on the Vega 56/64 anytime soon, I've mostly had Nvidia cards but willing to change just so I can afford to upgrade my 2 24" monitors to 27" 144hz as Freesync is so much cheaper to buy

I would probably go to £450 for a good fast 1080ti also but who knows what will happen when the 1180 or whatever comes out, the second hand market will be flooded with 1080's that is for sure.
Also my 980ti's value will go down, so I should sell it now but then pay over the odds for a replacement so cannot win really.

I purchased mine for £190 a month or so ago on members market. It is in great condition and I would be surprised if the price drops much on it once the new cards come out to be honest.

If the new cards are getting announced in August and become available around September, then Pascal GPUs should drop in price pretty nicely.

Was watching a Evga 1080ti SC2 on fleabay earlier. Brand new sealed went for £545 nearly went for it with 10% off code. Think I’m just going to sit out the needy round and hang onto my 1080. Probably best as I’m saving for a house.
