Ive put my points elsewhere, but my issue with Standard cars is basically that PD released GT5 in what 2010 after how many years in development. They decided that as part of that development that the Premium cars would be of a quality that would be fine for multiple GTs and need 'minimal' effort when platforms changed. Thats admirable to be forward-thinking, but most of that would be PDs need to be perfectionists rather than any conscious consideration for the future IMHO.
Now since then GT has had Standard cars which dont have PS3 level work on them and it feels like that PD havent really attempted to improve these apart from their exteriors in some cases but no one would say they are of the quality of Premium cars (as in in-car views and visual/sound modelling - not about car physics). Thats already obvious in GT5 and GT6 so its scary to consider how distinct they will look in GT7 on the PS4.
What Im vexed about is that PD have had 4+ years (since GT5s development) to organise what they needed to do with Standard cars going forward and I cant contemplate that not meaning upgrading to Premiums where possible (a rare some just dont exist now). Their existence is a juxtaposition to PDs apparent need for perfection. No GT fan is happy about this (its more that Standards still exist rather them being discarded) and naivety on the matter on PDs behalf would have been quashed by GT fans reactions when GT5 launched.
Im hard on the GT franchise because I expect better from PD because of their back catalogue and that they have the resources to do so as well as the time between releases that other developers just never get. I didnt expect GT7 to miraculously only have Premiums, but I expected since GT5 launched that theyd do their upmost to improve car model consistency to a level where standards/features were very similar.
And now here we are - I cant see how the blame doesnt fully fall on PD and if they arent capable, lost their way or just arent the perfectionists they kept telling us they are; then GT needs to be given to someone else. Ultimately I want a fun game, with GT5 it felt like you had to pry it like blood from a stone; GT6 is supposedly better but I dont own it - its hard to be hopeful about GT7, especially as we all know it wont meet our expectations of the series.
