*** Grand Theft Auto IV - MODS & TWEAKS ***

*Wall of text*

The reason TBOGT doesn't look as good as videos is, as far as I know the latest patch removes a lot of effects that were in the older patches [at least in GTA IV's case] so the episodes were probably made with these 'fixes' in place that are in the latest 1070 patch for IV.

Also as mentioned above _ALOT_ of other mods come into play to add to the overall effect.

I'm currently using Ultimate Textures, Better Trees and an ENB in GTA IV.

I would take pictures but I'm not at my PC atm.

I would use my gta iv 1.4 game but stupid game needs the dvd in the drive all the time to work and i would use my steam version but id need to download it as i duno if a copy would work as it might try to "fix" files that mods adjusted.

Ok downloading it on steam tho i dont think virgin will like the 15gb file dl lol. So can someone tell me how to downpatch it to 1.4 please as when i look at guides on the net it seems a bit of a fuss maybe you can simplify it for me a bit. :p

Gotta love 7.3mb speeds :)

I only have a 2.5mb connection lol

As for the downgrade its really simple, download the 1.0.4 patch from here
http://www.gamefront.com/files/14266711/gtaiv_patch_1040_zip

Just run the update and it will install itself to the right location, then you need to download the Rockstar Social Group tool. The link is below towards the top of the post, point 3 it is, once you have downloaded this DO NOT INSTALL IT YET!
http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128300

So now you should have installed the 1.0.4 patch ontop of your fresh GTA install, go to your GTA IV directory mine is below but your see the idea
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV

In this directory you will see 2 folders, GTAIV and Installers. Rename the GTAIV folder to something like GTAIV bb or whatever you choose it really doesnt matter. Once you have done this install the Rockstar Social Group tool you downloaded earlier. This will now put another folder into your GTAIV directory so you will now have 3 folders in there: GTAIV (the one the Rockstar Social Group tool has just created) Installers and GTAIV bb (the one you renamed earlier)

Now just copy everything from the new GTAIV folder that was created into the GTAIV bb folder you renamed earlier. Once you have done that delete the now empty GTAIV folder and rename the one you changed earlier back to GTAIV JOB DONE :D

Any problems let me know

Thanks will let u know how i fair when its done. Btw do you need a mod enabler thing like i have seen sometimes on modding sites like mod magic or somit?

You need a natiave trainer to be able to do things like spawn cars and generally mess around, i'll send em to you if you like as i can never remember where i got them from on the web :) just send me a trust and i'll zip up the files and send em to you

Ok i done what was said and i have the old rockstar social club stuff the **** one now and i have the terrible gfx settings from the really old versions of gta iv which im sure they changed for 1.4 so im wondering if i done it correctly now. Also my saves failed to load, grrr......

Any ideas on fixes for these?

Edit - Hmm loads work now, just didnt when i started the game but loads ok when in the game playing normally. Resaved just incase the latest one so its 1.4 certified kinda lol.

Hmm ok now, which L3evo do i use theres a few types i want the best for balance of looks and performance also what exactly does the nvidia 1.2 one do?

Also now where do i get these texture packs and road textures and realistic handling mods from as i think id like to try em especially the road one.

The new icehancer 2.1 will work with the latest steam patch 1.0.7 but a lot of the other mods will only work with 1.0.4. It is advised to use patch 1.0.4 for all mods even the new icenhancer as it does give the best performance. Its a really simple task to downgrade as well 30 second job :)

I thought the 1.0.4 gave me worse performance with like for like settings on my HD6950, but it did look slightly better, especially with custom shaders from the ENB.

Mr Krugga- Do you think the mods below you mention give just a good visual as an enb? Never tried them myself but might give them ago
Realistic Driving and Flying 1.3
City Cars Mod Pack v1.3
SMAA or FXAA Injector
DKT70 Road Textures (I think they're in the Ultimate Graphics pack now, if you can find it)
Better City Textures

Well, the Realistic Driving and Flying is supposed to improve the poor vanilla game's handling, make it much more enjoyable in the long run.

City Cars fixes traffic and replaces most of the vehicles with real life equivalents, that are common in NYC and States in general. With 1.0.4, I'd use Realistic Car Pack v4.

Better City Textures is an overall textures improvement, with DKT70's Roads being the better choice of the two. DKT70 has released his own ENB config and some other texture pack, including new roads, on GTA Gaming, so that might be worth checking out.

FXAA or SMAA anti-aliasing is a must - the game looks terrible without it. It's a post-processing effect so performance hit is minimal.

Can i use nvidias built in to drivers fxaa or is the other ones better, id be honest and prefer the nvidia ones if they work as intended as its simpler.

Cool cheers Mr Krugga, i always found that 1.0.7 gave me better performance as well its just none of the enb's worked 100% with this version until the recent icenhancer 2.1. Might give it ago with the latest patch and see how it looks.

i have been looking for DKT70's road textures for ages but none of the links around the web seem to work anymore.

As for the AA where could i find this mate? sounds like a good idea wouldn't mind giving that ago. Im thinking overall DKT70's road textures with L3evo enb settings and maybe a few added custom cars will make my gaming experience much better.

The only thing i hate when adding cars though is the handling files etc. Whenever i add the handling file that comes with the new car it always looks all over the place in the notepad file, i dont know if it all needs to be in line if you see what i mean like all the other handling configs for the other cars

iCEnhancer has SMAA in its default files, you can also use the injector linked to by caz32 (but it's the same file, so no need to if you use iCE's ENB). The pack also includes optional FXAA if you prefer that.

Road Textures are included in the Ultimate Textures mod and they may also be in the Liberty City Textures Volume 1 by DKT70. He's the author of the popular road textures and Reality IV mods.

Use Notepad++ for editing text documents.

As a reference, I've just done a Benchmark in EFLC with everything maxed out at 2560x1440, got 37.16 fps on average. Let's see how it goes with iCEnhancer installed.

EDIT: 31.29 fps with iCEnhancer. With a little tweaking, it should be playable.

Is the Ultra textures mod a part of the Icehancer mod or is it just another mod that's compatible?

Ok tried using the L3evo 1.2 version mod and when its night time i cant see a thing also even if its day time when im in the flat (first safehouse) its pitch black almost. What is wrong and how can i fix this? It doesnt look bad when its in the day time tho but the road doesnt look as nice as videos even with the road texture mod, it doesnt look all nice and wet and reflective looking which im sure the vids i saw of the road texture it wasnt raining at the time so duno why it looks so flat and unreflective looking.

Here it is inside the flat, barely able to see anything and worse when going out the first door into the hall where stairs are.

Here it is during day time which isnt too bad tho i see a lot of shimmering on shadows. Especially on certain buildings as all the shadows on some flicker which is distracting.

Might try the 8-7 version but i might run into the same pitch black bug on that.

Btw what settings give the best performance but decent visuals in the ingame settings if someone has a screenshot maybe.

Heres what my game looks like at night, I'm on the 'second' island just after your apartment gets set on fire, I can take some pictures inside there if you want as I'm using the same ENB, I have no problems with darkness.

In-game you can see everything

I installed this one for EFLC

http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/cge-enb-20-for-gtaiv-and-eflc-f11464

The default settings destroyed my FPS but with a bit of tweaking it's now acceptable, on average it's better than whatever I had previously as indoors and certain times of night are no longer extremely dark as in some of the shots in posted above.

Are there any guides on what all these parameters do in the config files? They can be a little daunting to figure out. I'll post some images when I get home, still need to try the MSAA mod, was too busy last night.
