*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

In my case it would be Buy game, take home, take off wrapping, put into console, play, fail degree :(

So the real scenario is going to be

work for 2 weeks, endure the agony of knowing everyone else is playing the game of the year, then enjoy it for myself :(

At least you'll get it cheaper! ;)

mmm - read something about 360 having major pop up issues IF no HDD to use for cache (not install - cache)

BUT if you have a HDD it uses it as a cache and pops are less noticeable ?

anyone know why the hold up with gamespots review ?

not that I think much of their reviews any more, but I can't believe they have fallen behind with this one ?

I think it's their policy to only publish a review on the day of release. I think they've gone down the pan somewhat now. I've not even watched "On the Spot" for two months.

I swear i saw a screenshot of it installing on a 360 it was a 3600mb file....

ps3 version, must have been as I am sure ps3 install is 3.6gbish

Problem is if it is using the 360 HDD to cache then how do we know (this happens invisibly). Should say on the back of the box. Considering the amount of 360 ppl who have the game early (by hook or crook) I am surprised no-one has answered this question (or that it has not been answered in any of the reviews that went live last night).

rp2000 - I think cache is used on quite a few 360 games

it just happens in the back-ground .. so you are not aware of it- and it doesn't show up in any of the 360 menus to show what is being cached and what not !!

4.3gig
i best get clearing some HDD space :p

edit : oh according to that link the cache space is already reserved

It'll be part of the 6-7GB that's already reserved on the HDD, probably the same cache space that's used for the Xbox emulation code to mimic the cache space of the original Xbox hard drive.

The 360 can cache files on HDD if present. The game can do it when it does the initial pre-load.

so does that mean if you play 2 games that use a lot of cache

it has to empty and re-fill EACH time you play the games ?

could this cache thing be why some people are noticing pop-ups and others not ... ie in store - a 360 without HDD would be far worse - as no caching abilities
