*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

I laughed when I saw this buyer review on a stores website:

"Firstly the graphics are nothing like what we see from Gran Turismo Prologue, shooting is uncomparable to that of call of duty 4 and the driving is weak compared to burnout paradise."

Well, really? Shooting not as good as one of the best first person shooters? Driving not as good as a dedicated racing game? Graphics not as good as a game with no AI or free roaming?

lol, sounds like some of the people in these threads tbh :p

Love the graphics in heavy rain. So shiny! Really enjoying the game now further in the story. Multiplayer is also really fun, haven't played much of it, but its cool chasing after people in cops n crooks.

Pre-order finally came. Thoughts:

I don't have a HDTV and the text and HUD is hard to read. On burnout everything looks fantastic on my 32" CRT telly and is easy to use.

Car handling is good. It doesn't feel tedious to drive around even if you obeyed traffic lights cos it feels real, and there's always something to look at.

Graphically it is a bit underwhelming after all the reviews gave it 10, but it feels very realistic and immersive. Burnout looks amazing but you feel like you are playing an arcade game, not like you are actually in Liberty City.

Frame rate issues - there are definitely some slowdown points. Again on Burnout you never see this, and at mind-blowing speeds too.

Well just tried to get ahold of it, went to 15 diffrent shops in various places all are sold out for the 360 version 1 copy was avaliable for the PS3 version but that is of no use to me :(. Gonna try tommrow apparantly new stock is avaliable then.

Do you use and RGB Scart or a component (Red Green Blue) lead ?

The standard composite lead (Yellow Red White) is bloody awful.

Well just got a lend of it, Can't say im impressed really. I like the fact that everything has been scaled up and the world is more real sized but imo the fun has went out of driving the cars. Drive a car on grass and it reacts like you're driving on ice. Also the "vaseline across the screen" styled blur effect just is annoying as all hell to look at, sort of reminds me of the backgrounds in halo 3.

Even the character control feels very slow and clunky. Seems this time around theyve tried to make it more realistic in terms of movement. Wasn't really expecting to like it so not a big loss for me, just glad i didn't waste £45 to find this out. :o

All these points i found to be true as well. But after you play it for awhile you get adjusted to everything you mention. Once you master driving, its very easy, as is the running. The graphics take longer to get adjusted to as well, but once you do, they do look quite good considering the size of the game.

Btw, is there an option to have run constantly on rather than having to hold down 'A' all the time?
