So is it safe for PS3 owners to buy GTA4 now the patch is out > does it stop random crashers for certain or is it to early to say for sure, in fact is there any one here with no more lock ups e.t.c after the patch was added ?

ps i know some never had such a prob but would like to here from them who did.

I don't think it stops the random lockups. I'd heard (from http://www.gtaforums.com/) that this only affect the 60GB models and was caused by a conflict with the PS1/PS2 emulation chip. Apparently it would require a firmware update to fix.

For me, the patch does allow me to play whilst logged into PSN as before the patch it wasn't getting past the Loading screen when starting the game if I was signed in.
 
Does seem a lot of padding. Without posting a spoiler I'm at the stage of the game where the safehouse has been moved to a different location but many of the missions are still sourced in the original area. That's 4 or 5 minutes travelling just to obtain/start a mission. Add to that having to forage for the decent weapons as these still aren't available at the gunshop (also armour is $500 a time) it does start to get a bit tedious. It's not as if the driving etc. levels up as it did in SA to compensate.
 
Had my worst slowdown so far at the end of The Snow Storm. 'Slideshow' was too strong before but this really was like that, probably 10fps.
 
Downloaded and installed the PS3 patch and it allows me to load the game with internet/PSN enabled and play for an hour without lockups so it looks like it is working.
 
I'm starting the final mission(or so i believe) and I have 29 hours 58 mins on the clock. Don't think there is much chance of me getting the 30 hours achievement is there :p

Wait a day or two, they get back to you. I think a lot of them reject you apart from a couple.
 
I was mucking around Chinatown on the second island last night. I sort of bumped into two well suited chaps (triads?) and all hell broke loose! Then a man came out of an alleyway and ran after me (looked like a butcher) with a big machete so I ran and got hit by a yellow cabbie. When I eventually got up, the two triads were having a fight with the machete chap :D
