A console is a sum of all it's parts.
All PS3's have hard drives, So if the PS3 bluray speed is not fast enough to stream direct from disk, It caches and installs.
That's not a fault or a problem. if the Bluray speed was faster great. But the console/game works. When all the devices within the console are used in conjuction with one another.

I'm not bothered how the consoles work, just that installing on a PS3 is a necessity for a ton of games simply due to slow read time, and the 360 doesn't have this issue because its disc read time is fast enough not to compound loading times. All there is to it. It's not about how 'good' either console is, I'm just talking about disc read speed/hdd usage here.
