Great news! Brown Sacked

Last thing I heard (5mins ago Adam Pearson on Radio) is that there is a short list and noones been decided on or ruled out. He'll make his mind up tomorrow and have a press conference to annouce on Thursday.

Hull chairman Adam Pearson expects to name the club's new manager by Wednesday morning - but has ruled former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley out of the running.

The Tigers parted company with Phil Brown on Monday after a run of four successive defeats, and Curbishley was immediately named as one of the favourites for the position along with Gary Megson.

But, speaking on Radio Humberside, Pearson said of Curbishley: "He's not on the (shortlist)."

Pearson revealed there are "about five" managers on his shortlist for the job, and also admitted: "We're probably looking at a deal to the end of the season.

"We will then ascertain where we are and what we've got financially before committing further than that.

"Alan is a fantastic manager but it needs to be someone we can get in on a nine-game basis. He is not on that list."

He would not be drawn on Megson, who now heads the betting.

Pearson continued: "We want the new manager operational by Thursday, we will do it promptly and would expect to be able to make a decision tomorrow night.

"We expect there will be an announcement at the latest by Wednesday morning."

The only reason they lost to Arsenal? They had one shot at goal all game which was a penalty, which was offside so should never have even been considered. That's terrible at home, with two strikers on the field

Would Arsenal of won had it not been for the keeper?

No.

I hardly think it was the Arsenal game alone that's cost him the job. It's not like they were doing comfortably before that.

You clearly dont understand what I meant, what I was saying is had they drew with Arsenal would they have sacked him? I think it would have been very hard to do should they have got a very positive result like that

Of course it wasn't the Arsenal game that cost him the job but why leave it till after that game till they give him the chop? Why not before? At least then the new manager factor might have actually got them a result at the weekend.

Very odd timing to do it at all at this point in the season

Would Arsenal of won had it not been for the keeper?

No.

Would Arsenal have won the match had the ref got the biggest decision right.... yes, even without the keeper error.

They are getting ready for the championship and its a smart time to do so. Is it worth getting a manager and trying to work out whose good enough to get them back up and who needs to go with no experience of many of the players.

Assume they are going down, with the 3rd worst scoring and the 2nd worst conceding records they should pretty much be rock bottom as it is. Pompie have an 11 better goal difference and Hull have the worst GD in the league. So you would assume they will go down, if you can get a manager in now theres an outside chance he might get "new manager" form and keep them up, they may go down. Either way they aren't any worse off, but the new manager has the advantage of knowing the players, how they play, knowing who he wants to get rid of and starting to look at who he can replace them with.

Frankly Pompie have had far more crap going on, a far newer and inexperienced team without the year with massive sweeping changes in August and yet, Pompie have been screwed out of a good number of wins from poor decisions and the worst luck. Having seen lots of Hull games, they've had their fair share of luck, getting draws against some bigger teams when really any other day they would have been spanked. Hull are the single worst team in the league for me, Pompie play better football on and off and should really have some more points.

I think Pompey don't really count as being 'hard done by' as at some point in time, they're going to have 9 less points which makes how they played somewhat irrelevant :p

Haha, what fantastic logic. Hull have managed to gain more points than Portsmouth, but sod 'em, they should go down because they conceded a lot in the games they've lost.

Funny you should mention that they're 3rd worst scorers. Who is 1st in that by the way? Would it be Pompey by any chance? The team you think somehow deserve to be above them?

Are they chuff. Teams who play worse football than Hull:

Portsmouth (until they started to realise they're already doomed and just went for it)
Blackburn
Wolves
Stoke
Pre-Coyle Bolton
Liverpool

Seems a daft decision to me, they're certain for the drop now. I fully expect Brown would have brought them back up too. I just wonder if there's more to this.

I just imagined Pearson tapping him on the shoulder, slapping him, and saying "You know when you've been Tango'd"

If only life was like my imagination. :(

He thanked him for his successful tanure at the club but let him know he was going to be officially tanned the next day

:D

Curbs and Coppell seem to be the most likely names mentioned. Can't see it being Megson, Pearson's not that stupid, surely?

I'm hoping its Southgate, I'd still love to know the full story behinds Browns sacking, still don't think he deserved to be.

Just showing more and more what you simply can't do, comprehend, string two sentences together, or "get" football.

They're joint 3rd worst scorer and 2nd worst conceded is the WORST average in the league. Pompie are the worst scorers but aren't close to the worst conceders, hence Hull having a 11 goal WORSE goal difference, Hull have the single worst goal difference in the league. Keep in mind Villa's scoring record for a top half team pushing for 4th, is ruddy awful, 37 goals, Utd are not far off having double the goals scored, but that doesn't tell the whole record, goals scored AND goals conceded gives you an accurate idea of where teams are placed, and goal difference paints a fairly decent picture of the state of a team in the league.

You could have won 24 games to now on Pompies goal scoring record, if they won them all 1-0 and never conceded, the complete picture is with both considered together, in which case clearly Hull are worse.

As for Pompie, you've failed to watch them all season, they hadn't remotely improved in the past few weeks, they've played on and off good football throughout the season, theres 3-4 games they've been entirely screwed by ref's when they should have won and I can't say the same for Hull.

Blackburn, really shows how much you watch them, their home form is pretty much phenomonal, they actually play half decent at home and have one of the highest win records at home aswell as one of the lowest loss records in the league. Hull aren't even remotely close to Blackburn, who aren't great but Hull really are that bad.

Stoke might play boring football, but they get results, are hard to beat at home, Wolves play better attacking football than Hull, just have literally no strikers worth a damn, and have conceded FAR fewer goals with a team on a far smaller budget. Blackburn almost have 50% more points than Hull, Stoke DO have 50% more points than Hull, but you think Hull are better than both?
