[Probably] In no particular order, I'd like to suggest the following:

1. Diego Maradona 1986 WCQF vs England - his first goal, for obvious reasons.

2. Gabriel Batistuta - c.1997, for Fiorentina vs Parma I think - cross from the tright hand side, Batigol took it full flight on the chest, and nudged it into his stride, before half volleying a thunderbolt from 30 yards past the 'keeper. Pure technical brilliance.

3. Carlos Alberto, 1970 WCF, Brazil vs Italy...after a flowing move up and down and back up the pitch, Pele rolls the ball into the path of the on-rushing right back who catches the ball just as it bobbles slightly, and lashes it into the bottom corner. Teamwork, samba brilliance, awesome execution.

Bernard - Van Basten of course from the most acute angle - and although it was sensational, it was a single shot, I like a little more substance to my goals.

Van Basten was, however, the dream striker when I was growing up - still have my Didadora Van Basten boots in the garage, size 6.

Aye, awesome goal, different to a long run past defenders true, but takes as much skill to strike a ball with that power and precision.

By the way , the first person to say John Barnes gets a custard pie in the face.

Or utters the words "Wayne" and "Rooney"

Bernard - by the way, would you consider David Platt's injury time swivel volley against Belgium as a "great"?

As a Villa fan, as as Platty was still with us at the time, I would say yes, albeit sentimentaly

Yes, top goal, was actually thinking of that too, but decided it just slipped outside the greatest.

Awesome player was Platty, saw him play vs my hometown club once in the FA cup, we lost (by one goal). Think he scored it as well.

A young lad called Dwight Yorke was also playing, god he was dire, Who would have thought he get to where he did.

The one vs Newcastle, IMO, was a tad fortunate, I believe he simply reacted quicker after the ball spun off his boot - call me cynical.

Anyway, it is instantly disqualified as he was being marked by defensive "maestro" Nikos Dabizas at the time, rendering it unworthy!

The season AFTER the World Cup 1990, Platty stayed on, and again, IMO, was at the time, the best midfielder in the World - we stayed up JUST, but he still scored 20 goals in the League - fantastic.

Sold to Bari for £5.5m the following summer, and replaced by Big Ron's dubious purchase, midfield dynamo Paul Mortimer

Correct.
Ive seen aircraft carriers turn quicker than Dabizas.

Roberto Carlos free kick against France?

Rivaldo overhead kick in the last minute to secure Champions League football for Barcelona?

Zidane in the Champions League final against Leverkusen?

The last two I mentioned because they were unbelievable goals that were in important matches. The importance of the match and timing of the goal can make it greater too.

That one stands out for me as well. I remember watching that live on tv and after what he had already done in that game and what was at stake it was unbelievable.

I've seen some crackers on google video, dunno if we're allowed to post links to them, i will if we are :)
Some absolute beauties - Van basten of course, Nelinho's banana shot against Italy, Roberto Carlos free kick vs France was simply outstanding, and one that wasn't a long range drive or anythnig spectacular, but purely for the teamwork and build up play was Arjen Robben vs norwich last year. The build-up was incredible, and the finish topped off a classy move. One of my favourite team goals.
In the premiership; Di Canio's scissor kick, Shearer's volley vs Everton, Rooney vs Newcastle, and pretty much ANY Matt Le tissier goal :p

In no order, the first 3 that came to mind...

George Weah for Milan against someone I can't remember. He controlled a corner in his own penalty, then proceeded to run the entire length of the pitch, going past 3-4 players in the process, before slotting it home.

Van Basten's volley in the Euro Finals. I doubt many, if any, other strikers would have even contemplated shooting from there, but not only did he shoot, be he caught it perfectly and scored from a stupid angle

Roberto Carlos, free kick in Le Tournoi against France. Quite simply the best free kick I've ever seen. I still love the behind the shot angle where you see the ball boy start to duck as he thinks the ball is heading towards him.
