Greatest Goal of all time?

Although I hate to say it, I think Maradona's against us in the World Cup is the greatest goal of all time, it had everything in an extremely important game.
You reckon? He went past a couple of players, most of whom backed off, and to this day I'm still not convinced he put it in himself, considering he has no right foot whatsoever.

I'm sure it's not the best goal ever but Rooney's vs. Newcastle was special for me, not just for the strike but because the only reason he was in the position was because he was arguing with the ref..then saw the ball come over and lashed it into the net without a second thought. Quite amusing :D

George Weah for Milan against someone I can't remember. He controlled a corner in his own penalty, then proceeded to run the entire length of the pitch, going past 3-4 players in the process, before slotting it home.

Oddly this was the first one that came to my mind, unbelievable skill and determination to do it. How I miss Football Italia.

As I'm Scottish I should also nominate Dave Narey's wondergoal against Brazil, 'toe-poke' - aye right ;)

I think it was in the World Cup '98 that Zidane took a penalty against Portugal in the final minutes of Golden Goal which goes down as one of the best penalties I've ever seen for the pressure that he must have been under and the way it looked almost like he was about to dislocate his hip such was the angle he hit it at sending the goalkeeper totally the wrong way. I may have got the match wrong but Zidane has still scored the best penalty ever in my view.

Correct.
Ive seen aircraft carriers turn quicker than Dabizas.

He gets an arm in the face from Bergy in any case which probably doesn't help matters.

Best goal of all time was around 11 years ago on the back yard at school. I played a one-two with Paul to take half their team out the game, ran onto the return and then smacked it with the inside of right foot, curled it round the wire mesh fence (when did you ever see Maradona pull that off then eh?) and it swerved past the valiant stuck out arm of Jamie Long into the corner of the goal. What a classic!

This goal is even more special because it was officially ratified by FIFA, on account of us using an official USA'94 Coca-cola ball from McDonalds.

dont know about all time but 2 stick in my mind

1 was george weah for AC milan where he took it from his own pen area and dribbled down the field and scored

2 the african guy who played for leeds , volley from well outside the area against liverpool I think.

oh and giggys goal against arsenal semi fa cup was good

1. Diego Maradona - Agentina vs England (1986)

2. Saed Owaran (Don't know if that's right) - Saudi Arabia vs Belgium (1994)

3. George Weah - AC vs Verona

And continuing the theme of mazy runs the length of the pitch:
Dalian Atkinson for Villa, I seem to remember it got goal of the season on MOTD approx 1992, can't remember who it was against

1) Zidane - European cup final against AC Milan (I believe)
2) Roberto Carlos - Freekick against France
3) Giggs - F.A. Cup goal; Arsenal had the best defence in Europe that season... he ran past 5 of them then roofed it. Awesome.
4) Rooney - Newcastle volley

I feel I will be pushed into explaining the Rooney one, it was purely the scenario, we were struggling and getting no decisions at all (some were laughable) and the fact that only 10 seconds earlier Rooney was giving it some to the Referee.

There are SO many great goals though. There are loads of Zidane ones I LOVE!

If it's the one where he lobbed the keeper it was against Wimbledon.

Kind of weakens my argument somewhat
I think he got the ball in his own half and ran through half of the Wimbledon team and then lobbed it over the keeper from outside the box. So it doesn't really weaken your argument because it was a class goal and he did take the ball a fair distance.
