Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th August 2022]

Despite the scoreline that was a decent performance from us. We dominated the first half and 9 times out of 10 we go in at HT a couple of goals ahead but some sloppy finishing and one lapse at the back cost us. Nunez got played for a fool by Andersen and I hope he gets a *******ing from Klopp because that cost us any chance of coming back and winning the game - we done really well to still keep control of the match but we just didn't have the numbers in attacking areas to capitalise.

Fingers crossed a few of our injuries clear up soon because at the rate things are going we're not going to be able to name a bench next week.

Feels like same **** is said repeatedly, its clearly a problem which we generally have played our way out of with last season's momentum

I'm not sure Klopp is the shouting type TBH. I've no doubt he can, but Nunez doesn't have history for it, will likely feel absolutely awful and Klopp will, I think, let him sulk for a bit then have a chat with him. Nunez is still young.

It won't, I don't belive we will see any midfielder come in or any other position despite me believing its needed and rest of the world
If you start a game with James Milner theres something wrong. I like Milner dont get me wrong but you shouldnt be starting games with him and hoping to win the league.

Milner is a good player when you want to hold a lead, he's not such a good player when you want to get a lead. Not these days anyway.

Yeah agreed. Nunez doesn't need the hairdryer right now. Based on his past record he'll know what he's done, and need a bit of support. If it becomes a regular thing then he'll need a proper telling off, but not this time

I'm not sure you can compare the end of last season with the start of this, if that's what you're saying. The end of last season was a grind. We were running on fumes and just had to dig out results however we could. We played well in the first half today and dominated the game - we had 2 or 3 decent chances to score and a couple of pin ball moments in their area where the ball just wouldn't fall for us and then the one opportunity they have to attack, they take. And credit to Palace on their goal - Phillips was all over the place but Eze and Zaha were clinical with their pass and finish. Sometimes you just have to accept that **** happens.

Klopp's confirmed that Gomez (and Henderson) picked up a niggle midweek and that's why he didn't start today. He also mentioned that Matip's likely to be out for two weeks. I might cry if I have to watch us line-up with Williams and Phillips at CB again this season :o

It's like last season didn't happen how quickly the towel is getting thrown in here. Zero fight. Are you all on your period?

One minute it's Man City have weakened compared to Liverpool and everyone else and Haaland is a liability for injuries, to it's all over. It look like lots of teams have strengthened compared to last year so more teams will take points from Liverpool, City and each other. Surely we all prefer that where a team can lose 4-6 games than what we have had the last few years.

I wouldn't write the season off after two games, especially as I think the gap between Man City and Liverpool to the rest of the league isn't as big this season. I genuinely think Chelsea will be a tougher opponent this year.

The United vs Liverpool game will be interesting. I think ETH will have learned quickly that he can't implement his style of football with a squad unable to execute, I can see a extremely negative/defensive setup to try and ensure there isn't a cricket score.

You say that as though the players will actually do what ETH wants them to AND somehow develop the ability to defend too. That’s very unlikely for us at the moment :(
