Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th - 17th Dec 2020]

Hardly embarrassing, they could have quite easily nicked a win at Anfield, a place they / no-one has got a result for a ridiculous amount of time, I think judging by some of the comments on here during the game, they did a really good job of frustrating Liverpool, a few heart in mouth moments for Pool fans. If they set up all out attack, they would have probably got spanked.
Klopp was the biggest embarrassment of the game, they actually had a "whinge cam" locked on him for half the game.

If they took their chances...what if we took ours? On another day it would be 4 nil at half time. For a team with forwards like Son and Kane that set up against a 19 year old playing his first game in the league for Liverpool at CB is embarrassing.

"If they set up to all out attack" How about...just attack? Instead they played like a team at the bottom of the table. 24% possession is embarrassing.

They set up for Liverpool to have 11 shots on target?

Fulham put up more of a fight and actually got something out of the game last week then the champions elect Spurs. Embarassing stuff from Spurs.

Those shots on target don't mean much when they're taken at awkward angles or don't have much power on them due to Spurs' defence sticking close to the player taking the shot. I don't think the performance was embarassing at all, Spurs came as close as any other team to beating Liverpool at home in the last 66 games. Other teams can moan that we're playing negatively but I think this style of play is perfect for the condensed season - people talk about Kane's inevitable injury but I don't see it happening when he doesn't have to cover every inch of the pitch each game.

I have to admit I wasn't happy with Jose's appointment as I bought into all the United negativity around him, but I'm enjoying the slick counter-attacking passing and direct intent when the entire teams switches from defence. I loved Pochettino but we looked really toothless towards the end, dominating possession but struggling to get results against the "big 6" - this season we have 10/15 points having already played at Anfield, Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.

4 shots in the first half from inside the Spurs box on another day you'd expect one or two to go in. If that's tactics from Jose then well lol. Mourinho went for the win in the second half taking off a midfielder and gifting the midfield to one of the best midfielders in the world in Gini. From then on you offered very little.

Spurs were poor, it was only Liverpools poor finishing that meant you were in a game on 60 minutes.

Getting points from Old Trafford this season is a given to be honest.

Spurs only won because Martial was a stupid and we collapsed from it.

Watching José football was painful I ended up missing most of 17-18 season because it was just plain boring. Even our EFL cup and Europa wins were not classics. I have had far more entertaining football from Ole without a shadow of a doubt.

That has huge potential to bite you on the arse come May time :)

We are top of the away league and 16th at home so he has a point. Hopefully in January the whole country will be in lockdown and Liverpool's squad will have to bring Heskey out of retirement due to injuries so we might even have a chance of breaking the deadlock at anfield :p

We will have it seem up the month before so probably on the beach. That's helps United on their relegation battle tbf ;)

The game in January could be for the top spot in the league :p

Really? I remember that game and they were all over you and winning before Martial got sent off. The pundits on the day even thought the sending off wouldn't have made a difference, no team collapses like that just from a red.

I think people's hatred for Jose is clouding their opinion somewhat, Spurs had the best chances last night and if Bergwijn had squared it to Lucas I think Spurs would have held on for the win, and despite their only outlet being counter attacking it would have been an amazing result.

Absolutely, even the xG for the game favours Spurs, they created the best chances throughout the game.

Nearly a third of Spurs' xg was made up of the Kane header and attempt from the left hand side of the area in the 2nd half, both of which would have been ruled out had a goal been scored. It didn't get picked up on commentary but Kane shoves Henderson in the back right before his header and the 2nd incident Sissoko pretty much caught the ball and threw it to Kane.

Even including those two chances, the difference in xg was just 0.3 between the sides but there was a clear difference in the intent. Had you offered Mourinho a draw before the game then he'd have snapped your hand off. His priority was not to lose, hoping to pinch a win on the break and he will argue that his game plan worked - we were limited to few clear chances and Spurs created clear chances on the break. The flaw with that gameplan is that by giving up such a high volume of shots you're always leaving yourself more vulnerable to freak incidents/bad luck. If you keep allowing sides to shoot then eventually they will score, no matter how difficult the chance - players sometimes stick one in the top corner, keepers sometimes make mistakes or, as happened yesterday, you just get a lucky deflection.

xG stuff is nonsense, there's a reason they usually quickly gloss over it on Sky etc.
The reason is they don't have a clue about it. There's a reason why clubs are spending fortunes on teams of eggheads developing xg data far more than we know. Xg isn't just about the likelihood of a goal at the point a shot is taken, clubs are using the same anaylsis to look at build-up play from things as small as a CB playing a pass out of the back.

Too many kids watched moneyball.

Also only Man Utd can lose to Shef Utd. I can just see it happening.
