Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 20th December 2021]

No idea how we've got a point out of that, no idea at all, but I'll take it. Abysmal refereeing, shocking performance from our midfield but Klopp's complete lack of game management as Spurs threw away gift after gift was as bad as I've seen from us since Villa last season.

So good to see such a full on match with the players not getting pissy with each other. The way sport should be - compete hard in the match, but leave it on the pitch

Mad football game. Being without all of Fab, Hendo and Thiago really killed us today, with Spurs able to break on us at will but despite all that, with a competent ref and VAR we'd have probably won.

Stupid from Robertson to give the ref/var a chance but how on earth have they decided that was a clear and obvious error and Kane lunging studs up wasn't?
Villa 7 - 2 Liverpool not worse? Forgot to quote this last night :)
No, you were 10x worse. If Arsenal could finish and had all the deflections Villa had that day it would have been 7-0 at HT.

Absolute state of the officiating in this country, problem is nothing will be done and we'll just carry on letting these poor excuse for referees carry on, I'll state it again that unless it's for offsides VAR isn't fit for purpose, it is still an individuals opinion and as you don't get the same VAR officials you'll never get consistency on a game by game basis.

I'm glad Thiago was out, his lack of strength and negative pace would've been even worse alongside two of those three.
I'm sorry, that's just bonkers. His ball retention and ability to break up counter attacks was desperately missing today.
Not sure, considering the depth and quality of squads I’d says yours was worse :D
That's another argument altogether. My comment was on the level of football and your performance yesterday (particularly in the first half) was one of the worst, if not the worst I've seen ever in the PL.

For me Keita is useless, every time he gets the ball I’m just waiting for him to give it away. Probably a fair result, but feel like it’s 2 points dropped, shame that Allison missed the ball for their 2nd goal.

This is what happens when referees are a law to themselves, accountable to no one. Yet their incompetence can be devistating for the football clubs.

They need to be accountable for their actions, they should be interviewed after the game on TV, just like the managers and players.

What will interviewing refs after the game achieve?

VAR for subjective decisions and the constant tweaks to the interpretations of the rules has caused mass confusion. It's lucky dip whether something is considered a clear error these days and as we've seen today, even when it's the same VAR, you still end up with hugely inconsistent decisions.

I think it provides accountability and a degree of explanation behind a referees decision making, which if somewhat well reasoned should at least placate aggrieved fans to some extent. I think it's a good idea

The PGMOL regularly provide explanations for big decisions already. How does it help if the ref says the same things live on camera? The whole thing will be abused by Sky & BT looking for cheap headlines.

TBH interviewing the ref after the game isn't really going to get anywhere is it, he's not going to come out and say "Well I couldn't really send the England captain off on his home ground could I, imagine what the FA would say to me if I did that?"

He'd more than likely say "In my opinion Harry didn't really commit much of a foul and the ball was there to be won whereas Andy just kicked out at the player with the ball nowhere near to him"
