Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 23rd May 2021]

Horrific year of football, did well to sneak in top 4.

Hopefully fans back is permanent and they somehow bin certian aspects of VAR.

Thanks for the memories Gini

There isn’t enough money in this new Conference League to make it a financial blow - we’ll probably cover what we would have earned from a single player sale. Would much rather have more time spent in training and avoiding the Thurs/Sun schedule.
no one wants the conference league. I'd rather be out of Europe.

Nervy opening 10 mins aside that was comfortable. You'd have liked both goals to come sooner but they were always on the cards. After the madness of this season, 3rd place with 8 wins and 2 draws from our last 10 never looked possible but thoroughly deserved. Thiago & Trent have been outstanding in these final few games and I can't wait to see the former in a proper Liverpool side next season.

On a separate note, I was absolutely gutted to see Gini say goodbye. Imo the most underrated player in the PL over the last 5 years - he does so many of the unnoticed jobs that were key to the greatest Liverpool side of my lifetime, and always rose to the big ocassion. He'll be remembered for the Barca goals but he popped up with so many more important goals over the years. The opener vs Boro on the final day of the 16/17 season may in some ways have been his most important - we had to win that day and were looking nervy as **** but he popped up with a goal right on HT, we strolled to a 3-0 win and built a phenominal side.
Ty from AFTV will be celebrating getting into that European conference league is he?
Hopefully, they didn't qualify for it :p
Missing Europa will do Arsenal wonders next season tbh.
Really? When you factor in matchday revenue and possibly penalties in commercial deals, that's a £40m whole in their budget.

I’m glad. More time needs to be spent on the training ground in pre-season onwards not preparing and travelling to lesser known parts of Europe for this ECL thing that doesn’t do anything financially for the club.

Missing out on the EL however forces the owners to stick their hands in their pockets a bit more - can’t let that asset in your portfolio keep losing you money.

City have more backroom staff than supporters.
They don't have the squad for it IMO. Better that they get one or two bits of quality and have a go at getting in the top 4. Then buy a couple more next summer.
How do they get the squad without the finances European football brings. The "top 6" from a financial pov has become a top 4 with Spurs and Arsenal being cut adrift and failing to qualify for Europe at all is just going to widen that gap.

Had Arsenal had a stronger squad, closer to the sides they want to challenge with and this had been a one off then maybe a single season out of Europe may have been an advantage but this just looks like Arsenal falling further behind.

They'll need a cash injection from the ownership so prop up the sinking ship, otherwise I think you're right in regards to falling behind. But with their current squad, they'd barely get out of the groups IMO and risk further injury to an already weak squad.
