Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 23rd May 2021]

Never thought i would say it but chuffed with the Third place finish. So many injuries and still only 5 points behind second. Could see the difference fans in the stadium made on teh team, especially Mane. Hopefully Striker, Midfielder and defender can come in during te transfer window and we can push on again

I'll stick to believing the Athletic over some random fansite rob, sorry.

It could be the case that Kroenke, like with the stadium debt, is able to finance it cheaper than the club and Arsenal repay him but the Athletic are reporting that the club have borrowed the money themselves to repay it.

And if you don't subscribe to the Athletic:
Arsenal have repaid the £120 million loan they took from the Bank of England due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They took out the loan last year to help them through a tricky period financially. It was through the COVID Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF), which was introduced by the UK government.

The Athletic understands Arsenal have taken out a loan from a bank to repay the Bank of England loan.

I think it's somewhat wishful thinking to believe that Kroenke's sticking £120m cash into the club Rob - he's never done it before, in fact he's previously charged the club for his services. Even with the stadium debt last year, all he done was refinance it at a cheaper rate with the club still paying the money back.

Well that definitely reads different the version I was told.

This is the problem with having someone like Kroenke as sole owner. Everything’s private and fans are in the dark about the clubs financial situation.

They've been in the same boat for the past 3-4 years and tbf, they've spent a bit.

There’s been a lot of executive staff churn since Ivan Gazidis did a runner and that contributed to a lot of our problems as far as transfers and contract management. You had Sven Mislantat’s strategy, then Raul Sanllehi’s (and the agents whose pockets he helped line before the club hired a lawyer and sacked him) and now it’s Edu’s turn, all within that time frame.

I would like to think there’s now a bit of stability that was previously lacking but maybe that’s being overly optimistic.

How's that not a handball by Kane?
I read that it was decided that it wasn't intentional and not close enough to the goal to be classed as an attacking handball. I have to say I was surprised it wasn't given - I can't think of many other times a handball by the player that assists the goal hasn't been given.
Was it VAR checked?
I'd assume so but somehow it was decided not to have been an obvious error.

How did Arsenal only finish 6 points off top 4?
Due to the overall poor standard from the top teams this season. Every team lost at least 6 games, can't remember the last time that happened. In general it's acceptable for Arsenal to finish below six of the teams above them, but not West Ham.

Conversely Everton must be looking at where they've ended up (league position in double figures, negative goal difference) and wonder what's gone on there, they looked set for bigger things earlier in the season.
