Lampard got cut a lot of slack last season because of Chelsea's transfer ban and I know it's early in the season but he's being found out here. Everybody got carried away with the signings they made but Lampard is showing that he hasn't a clue why they were signed or what he's going to do with them.

One minute it's 4-3-3 with Werner through the middle and Havertz wide, with Jorginho sitting as the main CM, then it's 4-3-3 with Werner wide and Havertz central and now it's 4-2-3-1 with Havertz as a 10 and Werner having to play a deeper wide role and no Jorginho in midfield.

A case maybe of Lampard being of the managerial school of just throw money at it rather than the managerial school of tactics and strategy?

Am I correct in reading that Silva got captaincy on his debut. really!

Yeah I must say, I was somewhat surprised at that, first game for your team, first game in a whole new league in a whole new country and you're made captain. If I was an existing Chelsea player I might have my nose a bit out of joint about that.

Or he's simply not very good. The likes of Mourinho and Pep are often called cheque book managers but at least with them you know they're buying specific players to play a specific way in a certain system. It looks like Chelsea have just signed players for the sake of it and are going to try to figure out how to play and how to fit them in after. It's not just the new signings either. You've got Jorginho, who to get the best out of you need to play a very specific way, who's been in and out of the side with Lampard chopping and changing how he sets up in midfield and that was the case last season too.
