Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd-4th Oct 2020]

The red card isn't even just this game, it's 3 matches without Martial and Spurs 3 games with Lamela. VAR should be telling the ref it's two reds.

This is what I don't get. Thiago Silva would have been useful for a year. Ake for £40m would have been a much better use of money. I've not seen anything of Dias but you've got to imagine he'll be better than anything United have. Everton have just signed Godfrey for £25m and he's a real prospect. Arsenal got Gabriel. Most of the other teams around United have been able to strengthen at the back and United don't even seem to have considered it.

That said Spurs's defenders aren't much better - for two teams pushing for the top 4, these two teams have staggeringly poor defences

Dias is an absolute wonderkid on FM. I imagine it'll be pretty accurate.

Allan or Rice. Someone to retain the ball.

On my comments om Fernandes. Hes lost the ball 11 times this half.

11!

Won 2 out of 7 ground duels

Hes a passenger.
He's not the problem. His job is to create, to play high risk passes. He's going to give the ball away but you don't mind if he gives it away 5 times, if he also creates a goal. The problem is what's behind him. Going in against a 3 man midfield with just 2 is always going to be hard but Utd's 2 do not run. Matic's legs went ages ago and Pogba just doesn't fancy it.

This is the issue with VAR. VAR has to look at both those incidents separately and decide if a clear mistake has been made. As soon as he gives Martial a red, it's very difficult to say it's clearly wrong. Equally, as soon as he's decided Lamela's wasn't a red, you can't argue (in isolation) that it's clearly wrong.

Well it's because Fernandes doesn't go back much and loses the ball, but at least he's effective going forward. His record since joining the PL is incredible, even putting the penalties aside. Pogba is a very impressive player but aside from the occasional Hollywood pass I don't actually know what he contributes
Pogba's proven world class at every level of the game so it's got to be a management issue. No idea why he hasn't moved on because he's throwing his career away at United.

Shame Keane isn't a pundit today

I'm sure he will have his say although I imagine he has exploded at this point. What boggles my mind is how Neville hasn't ripped into this United defence. Spurs have been fine today, nothing special. We have just been beyond awful

Another utterly inept performance so far from United

OGS out before Xmas - Poch in.

Marital is never a red card - if it is so is Lamela.....

Playing out from the back when you have awful defenders like McGuire and Bailly - Great idea!:o:o

Sacking Ole makes no difference. The board haven't backed him at all. How do you think that effects the moral in the dressing room and planning for the future. You can change managers as much as you want but when the club is run poorly from a football perspective nothing will change until someone buys the club and the top end management is sorted out.

I am actually a little annoyed by David Gill and Alex Ferguson not putting things in place before they retired. It is just so frustrating.

He's been dribbled past 4 times and cant tackle.

Ultimately thought this is on Ole and the fella in the stands whos name escapes me.

Fernandez is playing like he's desperate to keep the ball away from his own defenders...understandable. Got nothing to lose at this point, might as well take risks and try to get it to Greenwood and Rashford.

It's got to be causing problems now in the dressing room, there's a quality bunch of forwards in the side, being let down by the clown show at the back.

Agreed playing a midfield of Fred, VDB and Fernandes just seems a lot more balanced. Pogba needs to be gone. You can clearly see he cannot be bothered.

He's a number 10. Yes it would be great if he was a great defender too but you accept he's not if he's doing his main job of creating and scoring. Utd need better players behind him to cover his shortcomings.

That red card is pathetic, if martial goes then they both go I agree with souness there

Utd could have avoided most of the goals though, defending was crap on em all
