Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd-4th Oct 2020]

Really? Most of the fans I know were crapping it when SAF left.
Every utd supporting friend I have said it. always claimed they wouldn't ever decline like we did. At my old job was least 10 utd fans there all claimed it

Certainly on track to do it.

Utd too full of dross and over paid players so doesn't help them. Even if utd say got some one like poch, the structure would still be an issue

Last window is irrelevant. He has had no backing what so ever in this window at all. Also United should be spending large amounts they earn the most revenue out of everyone in the league and to compete with the best money needs to be spent (albeit not for much longer).

So you reckon that every team that hasn't spent £100m+ almost every year for the past 7 years is going to get spanked by this Tottenham side. You spend huge money to compete at the top in Europe and the League. We are getting out played, out worked and out managed by teams that haven't spent £100m in the last 10 years. Who is that on? We aren't even approaching the quality of football we should with the players we have. This is embarassing.

Buying Sancho won't fix that. Buying another CM won't fix that. Buying another CB won't change that. Its a coaching, management and club culture issue that is causing the problems.

Too many very basic squad players.....

Defenders who can't defend....

Just another awful performance in a list of awful performances this season so far....

Dreadful transfer window with this stupid pursuit of Sancho who was NEVER leaving, ignoring the fact they have a gapping hole in defense and massively lacking upfront (I don't see Martial/Greenwood or Rashford as a CF - all wide players)

No structure, no director of football which I think would make a big difference in terms of the direction of the club, transfers etc.

You do not have to spend 100 million. You can be smart like Everton and Spurs. The problem is when a manager is not backed it trickles down. Manager moral goes down, followed by players etc. There has to be something going back behind the scenes as it is pretty much carbon copy after Jose's second place finish.

Not saying Ole is doing a wonderful job...but this is bang on.

You can parachute Pochettino in....but you've still got a £85,000,000 slabhead, Lindelof and Bailly.

It will take years to build a squad that can compete with Liverpool and City. Years. Poch won't make this a good side. Got to give Ole credit for dragging them to 3rd tbh.

I don't get what you mean. You're saying he could spend smart and then that he's not being backed. If he was trying to sign players in the region of £30-50m. (I.e being smart) I imagine they'd come through. By chasing Sancho all summer OGS has been foolish and wasted everyone's time.

We don't expect a squad that can compete with them overnight. What we expect is to be better than 16/17 teams in the league. We expect to play better football than almost every team in the league. We expect to improve season over season and not just churn over players. We expect not to be beating teams because they don't have a top class striker and we get lucky penalties. We expect to work hard and have a game plan.

We play rubbish football.

We rely on a sharp edge up front to cover it up.

We start a game with kick.off, pass it back and hoof it forward. Its embarrassing...

Exactly. So many people think that because we beat a team that outplayed us that everything is fine. Show me a top team that is regularly outplayed by random teams in their league and actually wins anything of merit. I don't care if we come 3rd or 5th as long as we are playing quality football and improving. We are not improving.

We came third last season because of A LOT of penalties and the **** form of the teams around us.

Ole doesn't pick the players he wants to buy. He more than likely make suggestions but that's it. It hasn't been like that since Fergie left.

Well said. When Klopp came in at Liverpool, and I'd argue when Arteta came in at Arsenal, while they didn't always get the results you'd want there was a clear plan, a strategy, intelligent signings, and a type of football being played, and longer term the improvement is obvious. Whereas with OGS I've still got no idea what he's trying to do tactically. Just hope to defend, get the ball forward, and let a fast striker score? That's not a strategy

Even the subs are walking around now, surely as a manager Ole should be expecting everyone to be sprinting to close down the Spurs players? You regularly hear Klopp screaming at players when they don't do enough for the team.

So how can he be backed if he's not making those decisions in the first place?!

Edit: also, are you saying the OGS doesn't want Sancho? I can't believe for a second that they are wasting this much time on him if OGS has asked them not to
