Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 6th April 2022]

Mate Salah is the most fouled player in the league yet never actually gets a decision. Top of my head we have had as many penalties as city have had this season in 80 odd games. This whole protect the top 6 thing is absolute nonsense. ASM looks like he raised his hands, gets into an altercation causing a big scene and was booked. What's the issue? Heres the Salah stat for you :

"Zaha gets fouled every 12 or so touches of the ball Maddison every 15 Grealish every 18 Pulisic 18 Kane, Vardy, Bowen and Sterling every 25 touches Mo Salah has 61 touches per foul"

"PrOtEcT ThE ToP sIx"

Mane 29

Jota 36

Diaz 23

Bobby 58'
No salah has a reputation for falling over when blown on, which referees have now clicked onto, look at all the dodgy penalties he has got over the years for phantom touches.
But I’m not talking about salah(yes I do agree he gets kicked from pillar to post in some games, looking at Burnley here ) I’m talking about how the top 6 have consistently got the 50-50s, soft penalty’s and the yellow cards that should be reds over the years, and even with the intervention of VAR which was supposed to level the field it hasn’t happened, as the VAR referees can still pick and choose what they want to view and what they want to ignore. This is probably the only time I’m not pointing the finger at Liverpool tbh, look what happened yesterday in the ManU game for example if that’s the other way I have no doubt it would have been given as a red card, look at the Havertz elbow on Burn, that should have been 2 red cards and the other way it gets given, I’m sure you probably have examples of it happening to Liverpool, but I stand by my argument that the top6 get the bulk of the decisions match to match.

Yes because Zahas reputation is one of absolute honour isnt it. Salah has that reputation because of the media whipping up frothing fans every single time he goes down . My fave piece of journalism was this beauty :

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...t-to-nobby-stiles-and-game-he-loved-0lkpz7xsj

"Mohamed Salah’s dive showed game Nobby Stiles loved is disappearing"

Despite match reports saying "Replays showed the defender did fail to make contact with the ball and clipped Salah "

Salah doesnt go down anywhere near as easily as the likes of Grealish or Zaha lmao.

Ive just given you Liverpools foul stats per touch. They aren't close to Zaha and his mates and they arent top 6.

Not likely TBH as we’re toothless, we need to find a way to play ASM in a way that doesn’t leave the left back exposed every time the other team attack, if we can’t do that we actually look a better balanced team without him

I agree unfortunately.

We so desperately need a striker of some quality, and to drop Manquillo.

Listen your arguing with the wrong person over salah, I actually really like him as a player and would love him at Newcastle, even if he does go down a little easy at times(still haven’t forgiven him for that dive a few seasons ago against us though) all I’m saying is if you look at it from a neutral point of view, the match to match decisions do tend to go the way of the top 6 over the balance of the game, I don’t want to point to Newcastle games because I’m then not coming from a neutral point of view, one that springs to mind right away is the city hand ball vs Everton, the other way that gets given on the first look. How ****** off would you be if city win the league by the 2 points they shouldn’t have had there, I know Everton fans will be monumentally upset if they go down by a point(even if you are laughing your head off) I also don’t think that the foul yesterday in the ManU match gets looked at as hard if it’s the other way around

How many touches per match do Liverpool players have compared to zaha etc? I'm guessing a lot more, and a lot more touches when they are not under any pressure whatsoever.

Salah is constantly on the go...he isnt in the midfield passing it back and forth lmao. Salah averages 33 passes and Zaha 29 a game. Zaha has "won" THREE times as many fouls this season.

What I will say is Zaha is a bit of an oddity as he seems to be able to draw a foul quite easily or makes it look like a foul, delete as required

My perception would be that when zaha receives the ball he will generally be under more pressure, with less options available to him, and he would generally drive at defenders more than most players in the league. That is just a symptom of the type of player he is and that fact he's playing in a lesser team. I'm not arguing one way or the other and frankly don't really care, but I don't think you can just point to the stats on there own.

Salah had the most touches in the opposition penalty area than any other forward in the top 5 leagues across Europe ( or he did as of January)
