Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 8th February 2023]

I don't understand why Man City doesn't play more through balls to Haaland, he does so many of those runs yet very few balls goes to the centre, they don't even try. They always go wide and when he gets to Grealish, he would just slow everything down and then everything gets all static. Yet Pep loves right foot winger on the left after the World Cup so Foden doesn't get a game, and unlike Rashford....Grealish doesn't have the end product.

Their defence also doesn't look as solid either, where is Dias? is he still injured? Laporte also hasn't played much and I also don't rate Lewis, Cancelo adds so much more in attack but Pep decides Lewis is better.

I think they will still blow away most teams but at this rate they won't go on this amazing 15 game winning streak that they used to do.

I agree with all of the above.
Plus why was de bruyna in the bench today?

Regarding City, people often overlook just how good Aguero was for pretty much an enitre decade. And David Silva.

Tough players to replace.

He's not the same type of player but I don't think anyone could argue that Haaland isn't a good replacement for Aguero. Aguero was a great player but there's nothing to suggest that Haaland is a significant downgrade, given he's still learning his trade in the prem his goal return is pretty decent.
As for Silva, since he left they've won the league every season with 86 and 93 points. In the 10 seasons Silva was there, only 3 of those seasons did they get more than 86pts and they only won the title in 40% of those seasons.

I think Arsenal will have a bit of a wobble but Man City don't look right, so they may not catch them.

It was blatantly obvious to me and I said it after the first few weeks that this City side is bang average by their standards and would drop points for fun. I've said all season they look far more likely to drop points than Arsenal. I think City will finish 3rd. Everyone got so caught up on Haaland banging in goals for fun against average opposition and totally ignored how susceptible that have looked compared to recent years.

Arsenal are miles ahead of them for consistency and City will be ****ing it having to play them twice. They look far less likely to perform under pressure and when it matters. They choked again when they had chance to reel them in.

I think like something isn’t right at City though, whether it’s Peps ego or something else?

To let Dias and Laporte sit on the bench an awful lot, benching De Brunye, selling Cancelo. Then there’s not changing your tactics to actually make use of the striker you have! Haaland must be thinking whether he chose the right team to join here!

In the EPL Silva has 93 assists and 60 goals, I thought he was highly rated, perhaps I am mistaken.

Clearly they played well with Aguero in the team, better than they are currently at least.

Silva was a fantastic player but I think it’s hard to argue that their current crop isn’t better than the previous one in almost every aspect. Aguero was a far more versatile forward than Haaland but nowhere near as clinical.

Teams have just figured out how to defend to nullify Haaland a bit and Pep is unwilling to change the way he plays to get the most out of him. He would be far better at any other top side in the league. Pep wants far too much control for Haaland to be at his best.

On Sky they were saying it's more the wide players that aren't as good, I don't know enough to comment.

It is weird that you see Haaland making the runs but is ignored a lot of the time.

The fix will be Bellingham this year and Saka the year after with Grealish going the other way. Arsenal have hit the perfect storm of Liverpool and City both widely underperforming when they have racked up 90+ point seasons. This Arsenal team wouldn't have stood a chance compared to either of those teams of the last 2-3 years. But just like Leicester you can't knock them for taking their chance and not choking. I just don't see it as sustainable for them.

SInce when are liverpool and city the only teams in the league?

MY point is, there are 17 other teams in the league that arsenal played against and the fact of the matter is, we have beaten most of them. Even if we had lost to Liverpool, we would have still been on top or thereabouts

SO it doesnt matter whether Pool or ciy are underperforming, Arsenal still had to play against the other 17 teams in the league.

Take some credit for arsenal.....

I am not sure what has happened to Pool, That is weird and for city? Come on, give them credit. They are not miles behind arsenal ffs...

So if city doesnt get 200 points a season, they are crap all of a sudden?

Reminds me of when arsenal failed to go the following season unbeaten again, everyone said they were **** as well.

Honestly come on. you cant expect city or any other team to keep wining the league with almost 100 points etc.

Its mental really and its not as if CIty lost to Leyton Orient last night.... They lost to spurs who dare i say, a decent side you know? And at there ground too....

I think many here are underestimating city and at the same time, not giving enough credit for arsenal beating most of the teams this season to be where they are in this moment of time.
