Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th March 2023]

I just might be right in what I said a few weeks ago. Liverpool are the biggest treat to the top 4 than Spurs.

They have been missing an enormous amount of "Big chances"

In order

Liverpool, City 50+
Newcastle, Brighton, Manu 40+

Rest of the league is mid 30's and under.

With regards to Newcastle I have only really been annoyed at one performance this season. Bournemouth.

It's getting pretty annoying at watching us miss clear cut chances.

Wilson, Longstaff and Big Joe all had great chances on Saturday. Probably more clear cut than any City had.

I honestly don't know what's happened Wilson he just looks like a shade of his former self.

When he wasn't scoring before he was bullying defenders and runing the channels. There's been none of that since the world cup.

I believe most fan's are also getting frustrated at Howe keeps starting him over Isak. He's been miles better when he's came on.

Only thing I can think of is they are still nursing him through that thigh injury thats kept him out for almost half a season.

Wait, was the Casemiro playing? The world class player being raved about week in week out?
Tubby got hauled off.

Tbf, he did say Liverpool would win comfortably pre-game. Neville laughed at him.

If Bruno or Rashford had converted their chances it could have well been a different game. The first half was completely different to the second. The way we just collapsed in the second wasn't nice however. Souness is right on one thing though a beating like that will hopefully bring us down a peg or two and make the players realise the real reason they even got to the position they were in before the game yesterday.

There is no doubt Liverpool were on fire yesterday. My question to Liverpool fans is where has this been for the past ten odd games? It is only a couple of weeks ago yourselves got tonked by Madrid who themselves lost to Barcelona who we beat. Also got tonked by Wolves a week before that.

Since our spanking by City we have only lost to Villa and a 90+ winner away to the Emirates. That is two losses in the past 31 games. Looking at that form to lose 7-0 is quite rightly a freak result based on form. Liverpool have lost 7 times in the same time frame so Gary had a point about a freak result when looking at current form.

Our form hasn't been there all season regardless of our past 10 games and Madrid spanking.

This year we have been all over place from day one. I think UTD issue and has been in past you do have good form then players seem to immediately think it's the utd of old and your best team in league so don't turn up.

Each manager you have had has had this good spell

Wreck it Ralph was just poor pretty much from the beginning! This is just one game. We conceded the same amount of goals in one game than we have done in the past ten. We have now played Arsenal, City and Liverpool twice winning 50% of the fixtures so we just need to reset and push back on now. Concentrate on the two cups and make sure we get top 4.

Football fans are a fickle bunch but this lot need the good old hair dryer treatment. I’m not too bothered about a single loss even though it was an embarrassing one, more importantly they learn this is absolutely not acceptable.

A few more need shipping out and a few more brought in for next season. Playing Rashford, Bruno out of position wouldn’t happen if we had an out and out striker.

If Nunez had taken his chance after 20 mins then Erik ten Hag would have been forever known as Erik ten Nil. And lets get this straight before this myth becomes fact, Utd's great chances to score in the first half were far from great. Fernandes' header was nigh on impossible to score - he's done exceptionally well, breaking his neck, to get that even close to being on target and had it been on target, Alisson had it covered. It had an xg of just 0.05. Even the Rashford chance had a xg of just 0.29 - Utd's total xg for the first half was just 0.45, compared to Liverpool's 0.96. While it wasn't as one sided, Utd cuold have scored and Liverpool clearly weren't as clinical as they were in the 2nd, this idea that Neville's pushing about Utd being the better side in the 1st half is complete *******s.

I know you like to use results against lower league sides in Cup games to bloat your stats but Utd have lost 1 fewer PL game than Liverpool this season Adam. Even before yesterday, Utd had conceded the same number of goals in the PL as Liverpool had. Utd are clearly a much better team than they were last season but they showed again that they're still prone to downing tools, losing their heads and letting a 2-0 become 4, 5, 6 or even 7. As I said last night, nobody would predict the result pre game but given that it's happened before this season and semi regularly in previous seasons, it's not massive shock that Utd ended up shipping 4+ goals.

The facts still remain we are 7 points above Liverpool as it stands. People are forgetting this is ETH first season in charge, although they’ve made progress it’s still largely a team he has inherited both physically and mentality. Klopp took a few seasons to get Liverpool where he wanted them ETH will take time too. I know Liverpool fans are on cloud 9 right now but it’s not like they have had much else to shout about this season. I’ve said multiple times but I’m more than happy with how this season has gone and top 4 and a cup is a great return.

We have played City and Arsenal twice. You still have to go over there and get a result against both. I would love it..... ;) Like you said bloating stats and all that :p
Amazing straw clutching there Adam but you redeemed yourself with the Keegan pun and your unwillingness to give up your hopes of the title.

It would actually be better for us if you beat both of them so I would literally love it :p.

Perfect scenario would be for Liverpool to win both and City to beat Arsenal. If we matched them game for game we would be 3 points behind City and only 5 behind Arsenal.

We are obviously not in a title race but it would be nice to finish the season within touching distance.

The whole Liverpool v Man United pundits on sky has gotten old for me.
I kind of agree actually. It makes sense in terms of stirring up drama because they are probably the two most supported teams in the country from an armchair perspective and also have a fierce rivalry, so it gets people talking (as this thread illustrates). But we've heard it all before. It probably still makes sense to have these sort of pundits in the studio for the Liverpool-MU matches (although a neutral perspective probably holds merit too) but probably the fallout will spillover into other programmes. The next coverage will doubtless kick off with a 30min postmortem on this match instead of focussing on the game at hand.

Shame really, hopefully they can rediscover their mojo soon so they stand a chance of blitzing someone.
I can sense the sarcasm, but I was specifically talking about when Liverpool used to fly out the blocks and put games to bed in 20–30 mins. It wasn't just on the goal front, it was how strong their defence was and how little they conceded at the time. There were times in that game yesterday, even at 3 goals up, where the defence was flapping.

An incredible performance that will live long in the memory of their fans, however, it doesn't mean that blitzkrieg Liverpool team are back.
