Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th March 2023]

Blown every forward out of the water, doesn't mean they are all having bad seasons.
Exactly. Haaland's strike rate is way better than any forward in the history of the Premier League... Shearer, Henry, RvN, Aguero, Suarez, Salah, Kane etc none of these guys can compete with his goals to minutes ratio. 75mins per goal, the next best on the all-time list is over 100. Small sample size, obviously, but the fact remains you can't really use him a baromoter of flop or not because everyone looks like a flop next to him.

His will even out over the course of his career but it’s a fair comparison. Both joined this season with high expectations, both playing for the 2 top teams last season. It doesn’t make Nunez a flop he’s had a decent start but Haaland has shown at least at this point that he is a level or 2 above.

Nunez is 17 in the top scorer charts this season btw.

Nah I’d keep the trophy I’ve forgot about it already.
lucky you, i'll remember yesterday's game long after the newcastle win is long forgotten. i swear to god i think i'd choke slam fernandes if i met him right now. don't get me wrong, the whole team just pretty much threw in the towel but as the captain his behaviour and attitude was ******* minging. he'd be out the door next if it was up to me (probably no bad thing it's not :p )

I stopped becoming so emotionally invested years ago. I celebrate the high and quickly forget the lows and continue on with my life.

I trust ETH to do what’s right, he seems to be cut from a similar cloth as Sir Alex so heads will roll I feel. As I said he’s only just got through the door 9 months ago, he still needs time to mould the squad to his liking.

Oh so do I, normally. But when most of my mates are diehard Pool fans this one will be hard to forget!! I don’t drink any more but still pop into my local quite regularly as a mates family own it. Will have to stop that for a good few months, it hosts the local Liverpool supporters club, run by the same mate lol

Aye, he certainly seems to have the team generally moving in the right direction. Still a long way to go and the boardroom goings on could still scupper things worse than any spanking on the field could do. But they are getting decent to watch again - for the most part - so I’m quietly confident things will improve further. Assuming ETH doesn’t have a meltdown and batter the lot of them before quitting!!

I've no doubt that by the end of his career he will have smashed the goal tallies of the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, especially if he goes to play in Spain (which I think is inevitable)

I doubt that. He has to score something like 45 goals per season until he's 35 to get near Ronaldo. Even if he goes to Spain that's a long shot to put up those numbers every year until he's 35. That shows the utter madness of how good Ronaldo was.

Its possible, by the time Ronaldo was 22 years old, he had scored 55 goals, Haaland is 22 and has scored 188 goals so far, over 3 times as many as Ronaldo had scored by the same age

Ronaldo was doing it in the Premier League as a winger which is far harder than scoring in the Norwegian/German leagues though.

I think thats probably the problem, Haaland is, to use Neville terminology , simply a freak of a goalscoring machine. Haaland is the next Messi and Ronaldo rolled into one

Here's a little reminder...

Fernández yesterday being able to push officials after kicking out and Toney today with a clear red card. Toney is so late and his boot ends up in the lads face after bouncing up off his knee.

What are they watching to not give a red there?

Our refs are awful.

Well yes, but if we extend that reasoning then the vast amount of Ronaldos goals came in a Real Madrid side in a 2 horse league.
Well why do you think no one has scored more than 34 goals in a season in the Premier League? But at least Barcelona and Real Madrid were Europes 2 most dominant during those periods.

Haaland has 189 goals in 239 appearances across his career. Rudd van Nistelrooy scored 150 in 219 appearances for United in a proper league.

Are you not missing my point though, my statement was that I reckon Haaland will end up scoring more career goals than Ronaldo, currently he has scored 3 times more goals than Ronaldo did at the same age. The quality of the opposition is irrelevant really, it doesnt alter the statement of the number of goals scored. My personal belief is that Haaland will move to Real Madrid within the next 2 to 3 years, do that and he could easily score as many at Madrid as Ronaldo did, which combined with already having scored 3 times more than Ronaldo up to this point would give him a good chance of ending up scoring more career goals than Ronaldo.

Because when people were scoring 34 goals in a season there were more games?
