Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 20th January 2025]

I don't think it's the money, it's the opportunity to 'complete' the biggest job in world football - turning this ship around.

You can only assume he's got assurances he will get time to build the squad in his image, or what was the point of all this.

Really I can't think of a manager I'd rather have, and none of them will guarantee anything. May as well let Amorim have the next year or so to try and change something.

Should have stayed with ETH until the end of the season. Then brought Amorim in.

Since he has come in it has been even worse. I am not buying he needs the right players in either. Otherwise we would be bringing in at least 1 or 2 in January.

RvN you mean - ETH has done untold damage and things were toxic and out of control. You are still ignoring the fact this is ETH's team he built over a couple of seasons at a cost of £600m and everyone thinks it's relegation fodder!

That is what Amorim wanted, but the CEO said it's now or never... things aren't worse, they just aren't really better in most areas.

All this being said, we could be a far better team and still lose this game, Brighton shouldn't be disrespected. Same for the Bournemouth game.

PSR gives the perfect excuse not to spend. Pretty clear to everyone that ETH wasn’t the man and it was going to get worse with him too. They just didn’t have a clue either.

Almost every other team just looks better coached as well. Even Saints the other night were close to winning and looked better for 80minutes.

It’s a miss match squad of lower league ability/quality with CL winners price tags and wages.

Amorim deserves time ultimately. Our squad has been cobbled together by a combination of different managers and bad decision makers.

I don't think any manager could come in and get a tune out of this group of players. Might as well get a manager in who you believe in, and recruit players who can implement his brand of football.

Unfortunately that seems a very uphill task now as we're not that financially sound. I don't really care where we finish as long as it's not 18th or lower, we're not getting European football unless we miraculously win the Europa.

There's a lot of mistakes to undo, Onana is great example of that. Sure De Gea long term wasn't right to keep, but Onana clearly wasn't the right replacement.

If United cant spend enough for Amorim to get the players he wants...why was he brought in?

He should be playing a system to suit the players hes got surely?

Not quite a new low but the facts are
Conceded 3 at home again
Barely registered a shot on goal. Penalty only shot on target.
Woeful.

FT. Usual stuff really, played a bit better than we did against Southampton (aside from the end) but defensively we are still a mess.

They need to get a couple of players in before the end of this month, Amorim deserves that if nothing else. Otherwise this will just continue.

It depends entirely on how patient the club wish to be, I don't see this being improved drastically after one summer transfer window.

Surely they must be close to not being able to spend, there will be no Europe and no prem. After dumping 220m euro on De Light, Zirkzee, Mazroui, Yoro and Ugarte? Unless the sales of Mctom, Greenwood and AWB give more legroom?

Feel like Ange has been given a ton more rope than any other Spurs boss would have been, amazing what being 'fair dinkum' and scoring 2 (while conceding 3) every game gets you!

There's a lot of talk about this but I think there's more headroom than people think, especially if we can sell Garnacho/Rashford.

I've not seen anyone say definitively what the situation really is. Dodgy tax exile Ratcliffe will find a way I'm sure... he's a man in a hurry.

15th in the league but injury ravaged. His time may be up....

5 or 6 of that Spurs starting 11 would get into our team... :(

They unceremoniously dumped a guy who had given over a decade to the club for Onana, remember hearing loads about how much 'better with his feet' he was.

2 years on and not 1 person can tell me Onana is a better keeper than De Gea or that he's better with his feet!
He's not even good with his hands. Never mind his feet!

Thing is, his stats weren't great when we bought him, so he's as good/bad as expected. He definitely needs to go, as do most of the squad.
