Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 3rd September 2023]

stop torturing yourself shami, that's never getting given. maybe further up the pitch it's a free. but we were never going to get a penalty kick for that (i think it was in the penalty area iirc)

Watch it again, Gabriel throws his arm across him to grab him first, then Hojlund grabs his arm. Hojlund doesn't pull his arm across at all, that is nonsense.

I suggest you watch it back again, without the Utd tinted glasses on.

Gabriel throws his arm across loosely (not grabbing him at all at that stage), Hojlund grabs his arm, pulls him toward him (this very clearly visible in the video) and as he does so Gabriel grabs Hojlund.

If Gabriel was cleverer, rather than grabbing Hojlund he'd have been better off just falling down as his arm got tugged.

Putting your body in front is fine, grabbing an attacker and hauling them back to stop them getting past you is not. I can't believe people think this is a fine and legal challenge now.

Ok, people can have a difference of opinion on these things but can we not have these petty snide remarks or I'll just lock the thread.

Gabriel should probably just elect to fall over here rather than risk anything else:

No way is that 'stonewall' in Hojlunds favour.

I think they (man u fans) are so used to getting extremely soft or dubious decisions given as pens that the moment a normal challenge happens in the box and they dont get it then they start with the accusations of bias etc. Arms across body of either the attacker or defender is part and parcel of passages of play across the whole pitch, to try and make something extra of it just smacks of desperation. The Havertz dive was more of a penalty shout than the hojlund 'foul'.

Games over, Arsenal won. No point going round the houses for pages and pages.

Utd are improving. It was a shame about the injuries. Hopefully they're not long-lasting.

Agreed, it doesn't matter now. There is no bias either way with these decisions, the refereeing standard is just very hit and miss.

Dale Johnson's weekly review of decisions/VAR:

You may not agree with him but he's a qualified ref and spends 90% of his time looking at decisions and providing reasoned analysis based on the laws of the game.

Gabriel stuck his arm out first Holland was simply trying to get past but was reverse clotheslined by Gabriel.
