Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th August 2023]

That's subjective but I was just trying to end this incredibly boring, never ending argument about decisions with a bit of humour :/ Everybody has said their bit and I don't think anybody is going to change their minds after the last 100 posts so it's probably not worth continuing.

And sadly that pic of Klopp is fake.

tbh, the biggest short term threat to enjoying football and a specific game of football at the moment IS the officials. Not newcastle. And they ain’t in city‘s league yet for ruining whole seasons at a time with their cheating. Yet. Nor chelsea’s.

Newcastle's hate is coming. They’re turning into a rich unlikable Everton.

officials are making matches all about them. Like Webb did. Next thing they’ll be asking for wages on a par with players.

And the famous ones will be going to Saudi.

Whilst theyre at it they'll be ruining games left right and center.

I know one of them. A young one. He refs L2, L1. They're all about "getting minted". It's a thing. Look at the money https://www.sportbible.com/football...ristiano-ronaldo-saudi-arabia-532671-20230420

I've played a lot of sport over the years and refereeing does attract more than its fair share of people who like some small sense of power over others. There are loads of normal good ones but there are quite a few that just want to be the centre of attention and don't really care that much about fairness or doing the best job they can.

I wonder if they made refereeing at the lower levels more of a career then it would make the standards improve. Ultimately you are asking people to spend a lot of time, effort and energy to be a referee and even if they get to the very top level they aren't going to be working until they are 65.

I've just seen a tweet detailing Joelinton committing 5 fouls (+2 incorrectly not awarded or signalled) in the space of 9 minutes without a booking :D

He signalled for a yellow twice aswell. Consistency as per.

Like Scott McTominay and Fernadinho, he must have dodgy pictures of multiple refs stored somewhere.

Predictably VVD has been charged with improper conduct. While his reaction was out of order and in isolation he can't have any complaints, we have already and will continue to see dissent not punished - like with all these new initiatives, it's a game of lucky dip.

I thought you said ref talk was boring.

Liverpool fans would twist on 21. Won the game, should have been down to 9 men and still complaining about the ref 3 days later.
If Trents walking for touching someones shoulder who launched himself to the ground then that same person walks for pushing someone off the pitch and Joelinton for his double figure fouls.

Edit. Gordon also kicked the ball away after fouling Trent 30 seconds after Trent got his booking.
