Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th August 2023]

Does he ****.

FW to 15 seconds. From that angle you can see he barely touches Isak and takes the ball.
Carry on watching to 21s and you can see he very clearly takes out the right foot before getting anywhere near the ball.

Doesn't matter. Had this argument with someone on here after the card for Wolves manager. It doesn't matter whether the decision from the referee was right or wrong. If your actions as a result should be punished then you should be punished. As usual the better argument is "why wasn't it applied here as well" rather than why was it applied here in the first place.
Oh i get that but the foul is ridiculous and is as blatant as it gets. Throwing a ball should never be seen as a worse offence then trying to pushing someone over the hoardings.

Terrible game management from Newcastle, really should have put that game to bed in the first half. We aren't at that level yet though where we can break teams down that defend as compactly as Liverpool did. We have two very good centre forwards but if one is benched and you don't get the ball to the other then they aren't a threat. Lost our shape when Gordon went off and again as we saw so much last season, we are usually relying on Miggy to do something and at the level they want to be at he's just not good enough. When you are looking to the bench for someone to come on and change the game there just isn't anyone there, Barnes may well eventually be that player but its early days for him in the side until Willock is back from injury.

I've not read much of the proceeding 30 pages but yet again refereeing is one of the main talking points. Harsh red for VVD, I thought VAR would have rescinded it although his antics after the card would have done him absolutely no favours if the league do review it. When I saw TAA's reaction to the first yellow I actually thought it was for Gordons challenge on him and Trent was gesturing to the ref as if to say it didn't warrant a yellow so early in the game. His challenge on Gordon immediately after that was a booking all day except in the case that he had already had one. Should have had a third for the pull on Gordons shirt before he scored too.

VAR don’t overturn Liverpool decisions. They just don’t.
Agree that, yet again, refereeing standards and consistency are all over the place, especially with the rule for goal scoring opportunities being denied reduced to a yellow if there is a genuine attempt to play the ball.

I've just watched it again, he definitely threw it towards where the kick should be taken. He finished up quite a way off the pitch, couldn't see where the ball ended up after he chucked it but couldn't be too far from where the foul occurred. Hard to make a case for dissent, harsh card imo. Not that it matters much now.

I want this completed and on my desk first thing Tuesday morning @Bigpig
As soon as I get one for Gordon from a certain lot on here :)

And fair dinky poos you lot have had our number for the past 30 odd years one more defeat doesn’t matter hah
Our games are better than most cup finals

Just moving my goals for this season to next. “Must not get beat by Liverpool”

Also sobzoaoailieabsjdidbf still looks like a winger to me.
Just like when Richarlison equalised for Spurs at Anfield last season, as soon as Gordon scored we all should have known it was going to end with an embarrassing defeat for Newcastle. As a section of Evertonians will tell you, Liverpool are the devils club, put on this earth to bring nothing but misery to Everton players, ex-players and supporters.

To think that had it not been for a terrible call at Stamford Bridge, we'd be sitting on maximum points right now. Not bad considering the tough start to the season we've had and the decisions we've had go against us.
/cough

You'll get one when Gordon scores 2 late goals to win a match when you're down to 10 men :p

Yes, I know you've had a hard start too (I was simply talking about the 3 games that have been played so far not the opening 5 that's covered in the link though) but unlike Newcastle we've picked up results :p And we have done it despite being on the wrong end of refereeing decisions in each game.

I've not watched it back, but how on earth was it down the other end of the pitch? It's not like he launched it, he just flicked it out of his hands.
They showed it at the start of the half time show, with an aerial shot but I've not found the same clip anywhere online to share, he absolutely didn't throw it anywhere near where a free kick would have been taken. Pretty sure it went past the halfway line.

I think the yellow card thing only takes place for offences within the penalty area. Removes the double punishment aspect if it’s a genuine attempt to tackle and just a mistake.

At least Ref Watch have highlighted the ref was a mess. He should've given Trent a second yellow and a red but Trent was unlikely to pick up his first yellow had the ref awarded the foul for the push by Gordon.

I didn't think the standard of refereeing would get any worse than last season but they've properly nosedived now they can penalise anyone for criticism.

I've just seen a tweet detailing Joelinton committing 5 fouls (+2 incorrectly not awarded or signalled) in the space of 9 minutes without a booking :D
