Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th November 2023]

Right with this “Gordon offside” can someone please put me right, the ball is played backwards by big Jo so he’s onside, they were both onside when the cross came in, we see the same thing when teams break in the last minute from a corner or free kick and all 10 out field players are in the opposing half, 2 players breaking with just the goal keeper to beat, and the player squares it for an easy tap in

This could be the game Nunez gets tons of chances and finishes least half of them for us assuming he doesnt need to think about the shot ha
He will be fine as long as none are sitters, if he has to ricochet them off the corner flag, hit both posts and finalise the shot with an overhead eyes closed flying kick, then he will score

No Gordon needs to be behind the ball, the direction of the pass doesnt matter

He was behind the ball, looking at the picture anyway. Why are people saying hes offside because he’s ahead of the keeper?

Its too hard to tell because there isnt an image. For me it looks like his knee would be offside.

Feels like an old school league match or cup tie this, think it might be due to the set up of the stadium though.

It's impossible to tell from the picture.

And re the keeper, there need to be two players between the striker and the goal before the ball is played (unless the striker comes from behind play). So if Gordon was ahead of the keeper, then he's off unless he comes from behind the ball.

The images are inconclusive so it's right that the goal stands, although absurd that VAR isn't capable of getting the right angle

Yeah i can see where your coming from, a camera on the other side would have proved it on or off, but by that picture Joelinton looks ahead of Gordon, so by process of elimination the ball must also be in front of Gordon, thats my opinion anyway. BTW what do you use to upload pictures

You can't see Gordon's left foot though, and it looks like there's a decent chance that it's ahead of Joe's head (which the ball came off) so offside.

As I say, nothing conclusive so the goal rightly stood, but it's another example of VAR being unsatisfactory.

how come on a break when it’s 2 players on the goalkeeper its not called offside then? Ie player squares it for an easy tap in?
